Historia
Following the surge of interest and pride in Celtic identity since the 19th century, much of what we thought we knew about the Celts has been radically transformed. In The Celtic World, discover the incredible story of the Celtic-speaking peoples, whose art, language, and culture once spread from Ireland to Austria. This series of 24 enlightening lectures explains the traditional historical view of who the Celts were, then contrasts it with brand-new evidence from DNA analysis and archeology that totally changes our perspective on where the Celts came from.

Historia
In this fresh and powerful work of environmental history, Martin Doyle explores how rivers have often been the source of arguments at the heart of the American experiment - over federalism, taxation, regulation, conservation, and development. Doyle tells the epic story of America and its rivers, from the US Constitution's roots in interstate river navigation, the origins of the Army Corps of Engineers, the discovery of gold in 1848, and the construction of the Hoover Dam and the TVA during the New Deal, to the failure of the levees in Hurricane Katrina.

Ah, now I understand...that makes sense
Revisado: 08-04-18
I found myself muttering to myself as I listened/read this book, "Oh, that makes sense!". Very well put together explanation of the power that rivers played in the development of America. Written in a compelling way, and narrated with skill. Highly recommend this book and recording.

Historia
Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth Fitch finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks.

Well performed and a story with lots of surprises
Revisado: 03-12-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Witness to be better than the print version?
Did not read the print version, but the narration provided a second level to the understanding of the story. Julia Whelan is a great vocal artist and I plan to look for other titles narrated by her
What other book might you compare The Witness to and why?
In some ways it reminds me of A Night over Water, by Ken Follett. In both novels the main character, a young woman, is confronted with the need to make her own choices, to act against Power, if you will.
Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?
Ms Whelan mastered the accents and speech patterns very well. Although I thought her primary narration of the thoughts of the main character were great, I particularly enjoyed her ability to perform the parts of more incidental characters with regional accent.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I think it would make a great Lifetime made for TV movie. The tag line would be a tough call, and it would take a lot more thinking
Any additional comments?
I bought this by accident...thought it was a different book. But I ended up liking it. Very strong story and performed in a compelling manner.
