Humans are social creatures: In this simple and obvious fact lies both the problem and the solution to the current crisis of loneliness. In his groundbreaking audiobook, the 19th surgeon general of the United States Dr. Vivek Murthy makes a case for loneliness as a public health concern: a root cause and contributor to many of the epidemics sweeping the world today from alcohol and drug addiction to violence to depression and anxiety.

Powerful and timely
Revisado: 06-05-23
There is so much hatred and division that plagues our world. This book helped me to see how so much (certainly not all, but a lot) of it is grounded in or influenced by loneliness. The author shares scientific research, anecdotal (and painfully relatable) stories, and personal experiences to show how connecting and being in community can have such a positive impact on us internally as individuals and externally as a community. This book was very impactful for me and I highly recommend it.

Whether you're sleep deprived with a colicky newborn or navigating the emotional roller coaster of a teenager, parenting has its ups and downs, its confusion and clarity, its big blowups and small victories. And no matter our family makeup or our children's personalities, many of us experience anxiety over our children's futures and often fear making a mistake.

Such good perspective
Revisado: 01-30-23
Andy Stanley has a way of getting to the heart of issues. He and his wife, Sandra, definitely do that in this book. This book really helped me to see clearly how much it makes sense to focus on the long term relationship with our kids above all else and he helps to explain a lot of practical steps to take to achieve that. There are so many different things that we can do and think we should do as parents that it can be overwhelming. This book brought a lot of clarity to me. I’m very grateful that they wrote this! I needed to hear it!

Simple, powerful, practical
Revisado: 06-12-22
In retrospect, the principle of the path is quite obvious (essentially that every choice we make is not isolated, but rather a step in specific direction, down a path that will lead somewhere and the outcome is generally predictable based on the path we choose), but having it framed this way and explored in detail really impacted me. I bought a few paperback copies of this book - one for myself to reread, highlight, study, and implement in my life, and one to give a friend who I believe could also benefit from it’s wisdom. I would highly recommend this book. It’s well thought out and concise.

Hard to put down
Revisado: 05-09-19
Adam and Hallie did a really thorough and thought-provoking job on explaining how to make the relationship between an executive and his right hand more powerful and more beneficial for both parties involved as well as the company that they run together. In addition to giving me loads and loads of actionable ideas that I can implement in my own business, it has also challenged the way I think about the relationship between the executive and the person that works directly with him. I would highly recommend this book for anyone running a large or a rapidly growing organization as well as anyone looking to be the go to person for an executive.

Historia
Once upon a time there was a version of our faith that was practically...irresistible. But that was then. Today we preach, teach, write, and communicate as if nothing has changed. As if “The Bible says it” still settles it. It’s time to hit pause on much of what we’re doing and consider the faith modeled by our first-century brothers and sisters who had no official Bible, no status, and humanly speaking, little chance of survival. What did they know that we don’t? What made their faith so compelling, so defensible, so irresistible? Buckle up...you’re about to find out.

Super challenging, super helpful
Revisado: 10-22-18
This book really challenged a lot of long held views about my faith - what it actually is, where it comes from, and what defines it. Andy also shared some things that I’m still struggling with, but glad that he brought up (what if the Old Testament disagrees with the New Testament? What if the Old Testament disagrees with scientific findings? etc.). This book addresses a conversation that has to be had if the Christian church is going to actually make an impact in the coming years and generations.

Historia
Communication is essential in a healthy organization. But all too often when we interact with people - especially those who report to us - we simply tell them what we think they need to know. This shuts them down. To generate bold new ideas, to avoid disastrous mistakes, to develop agility and flexibility, we need to practice Humble Inquiry. Ed Schein defines Humble Inquiry as "the fine art of drawing someone out, of asking questions to which you do not know the answer, of building a relationship based on curiosity and interest in the other person."

More technical than practical
Revisado: 06-14-17
I'm a pretty technical guy myself. In fact, I'm a very technical. I like doing research and learning about just about anything. This book read almost like a textbook. It was a lot of theory and ideas and was limited on practical application. As a business owner and professional coach, I was hoping to learn how to ask better questions that would help me make more progress with my employees and my coaching clients. I didn't get as much of that as I would have liked. There were certainly some thought provoking ideas in this audiobook and I did take away some useful information for sure, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Solid advice, but a little overwhelming
Revisado: 05-24-16
This book has so much good advice in it, but it is really too much information to readily apply. I have a significant amount of experience in finance (degree in finance and 10 years as a financial advisor) and still this book leaves me with a feeling of "Goodness! There's so much to learn, do, and execute that I'll never have the time!" The information is well thought out and accurate, but the book covers so much ground that it ends up feeling overwhelming.

I'm so glad I listened to this book. Just hearing the ideas presented hear brought me to tears more than once because I could see how many fights in my marriage would have turned out differently had I implemented these tools and attitudes. I would highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who can't seem to get what they want in their communication with others or who finds themselves arguing with their spouse.

Solid advice
Revisado: 02-22-15
Super good advice. Although it is difficult, this book helped me to realize what some of the dysfunction is that I bring to my marriage and how I can improve, whether my wife will or not. It was also very thorough in a book that was not especially long.
