Historia
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

simply magical. I feel as if I've spent the last few days living in the circus. I'm not entirely sure I want to leave.

Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Brilliant
Revisado: 03-25-16
This book was mesmerizing in its attention to detail. The metaphors and similes the author uses are some of the most unique and vivid ones I've heard in a long while. The characters are well-developed and surprising. I will definitely be recommending The Girl With All the Gifts to my friends who enjoy a good zombie apocalypse tale.

Historia
On the treacherous streets of Riverside, a man lives and dies by the sword. Even the nobles on the Hill turn to duels to settle their disputes. Within this elite, dangerous world, Richard St. Vier is the undisputed master, as skilled as he is ruthless--until a death by the sword is met with outrage instead of awe, and the city discovers that the line between hero and villain can be altered in the blink of an eye.

Supurb
Revisado: 03-17-16
I love full cast audio books when they are done well. While this is not strictly a full cast - Ellen Kushner reads the majority with background and secondary characters filled in by the supporting cast - it has the same all encompassing quality of full cast productions. I was so drawn in by the narration that I was unable to do much of anything until I had finished the book.
The written prose of the book is also exquisite. The imagery is lush and sumptuous as a bubble bath, rich as dark chocolate. I think I am in danger of becoming addicted to Ellen Kushner's writing.

Historia
Mary Robinette Kowal stunned readers with her charming first novel, Shades of Milk and Honey, a loving tribute to the works of Jane Austen in a world where magic is an everyday occurrence. This magic comes in the form of glamour, which allows talented users to form practically any illusion they can imagine. Shades debuted to great acclaim and left readers eagerly awaiting its sequel. Glamour in Glass continues following the lives of beloved main characters Jane and Vincent, with a much deeper vein of drama and intrigue.

Even better than book one.
Revisado: 03-13-16
Glamour in Glass goes beyond the drawing room intrigue found on its predecessor and expands into the geopolitical climate of the early nineteenth century. While of necessity more violent than the first book, the author is careful not to have anything done out of character. It was extremely gratifying to read a book which in which the characters use creative problem solving rather than brute force. I eagerly anticipate where Jane and Vincent's adventures will next lead them.

Historia
The fantasy novel you’ve always wished Jane Austen had written. When Jane realizes that one of Melody’s suitors is set on taking advantage of her sister for the sake of her dowry, she pushes her skills to the limit of what her body can withstand in order to set things right—and, in the process, accidentally wanders into a love story of her own.

Fake accent is jolting
Revisado: 03-10-16
I really loved the story and the characters. I liked the way the reader did the voices. However in the narration the reader attempted a high class British accent that fell short on many occasions, jolting me out of the story. It would have been better if read in their normal accent with accents used solely for the different characters.
Otherwise, this book was wonderful: pride and prejudice with magic and female agency.
