Compelling and Tense!

Great tale! The characters were all well-fleshed, the action and pace were excellent, and even though the story is a brief snapshot, it's memorable and entertaining.

Historia
Following a drunken night of sex with the office secretary, Marty’s guts are rebelling after his personal hangover remedy, nachos with jalapenos and hot sauce. Marty has to go - and he’s got to get across the office to do so. Standing in his way are Nikki, the secretary from the night prior, Brad, the vape-enthusiast douche, and possibly even his boss. The office door is always open, after all. Join Marty on his trek, like a vulgar Lord of the Rings. The distance may be shorter, but the stakes are just as high.

Absolutely Riveting!

The story, by Christopher Golden, is nail-biting and fast-paced, and does an excellent job of showing what happened to the colony before Ripley's arrival. The production is excellent, truly epic stuff!

Excellent Space Opera
Revisado: 09-21-16
I really enjoyed this book - it proves that SF with a character focus works very well, and that there's not much, in terms of technology or future-forcasting, which is needed to give it that adventurous, exciting feeling. Jo did a wonderful job with the characters, even the Empress; every one of them have believable motivations, and I was invested in all of them. I'm also looking forward to seeing more of the worlds and systems Jo has created, as the hints were tantalising.
As to the narration, sometimes Travis fell into reading different emotions in a similar manner, but over all, his performance was good. I would, however, advise that the female narrator not use the high, almost Anime-suited voice - it was the only aspect of the narration which truly detracted from the listening experience.
All in all, a job well done - I'm looking forward to more of Travis' narration and can't wait to return to Kare and Abendau.

Excellent Military SF!
Revisado: 08-10-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Uncommon Purpose to be better than the print version?
I'm looking forward to answering that question when I get to read the print version - the tale was that good, I'll definitely be reading the print version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Nathan Telford, for sure. When we meet him he's young, brave and impressionable, and as he goes through the crises which begin to define his character we get to see not only the hardness in him which he has needed to cultivate to survive, but also his softer, deeper side. He's a well-rounded, believable character and I'm looking forward to continuing his journey is the second book.
What about Keith Michaelson’s performance did you like?
Keith did a wonderful job of maintaining a balance throughout the narration - he managed to match and evoke the emotional content of each scene while continuing to engage the listener, and I'm looking forward to listening to more of his narration.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
After a young man witnesses the destruction of his life, he focuses on building himself into the kind of person who will be able to pursue the revenge he seeks.
Any additional comments?
Truly cool Military SF - PJ is a wonderful writer capable of deep emotional communication and edge-of-the-seat action and tension. Highly recommended!

An Epic Meditation on Gods and Power
Revisado: 06-14-16
I thought Zachary would struggle to top the first book, but he did. A truly epic and surprising narrative, deepening the characterisation of those we met in the first book and introducing memorable new characters, too. The action is brutal, the magic system is amazing, and the world building masterly.
Excellent performance from John, will definitely listen to more books narrated by him.
