I love this audiobook. The French Revolution can be such an overwhelming topic, Him streamlines the epic and helps to add a lot of clarity for me, as an adult.

Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

Very Enjoyable!
Revisado: 03-06-23
I don't usually like The Great Courses lectures, but this one was very entertaining. i listen to Audiobooks to fall asleep, which means that I need them to be interesting enough to hold my attention while I'm awake, but I also need the narrator to be calm enough that I'm not going to be woken up by any surprise volume changes. This title is perfect for that! It's very interesting, but also very calming.
My one word of caution would be that this lecture is very balanced between science and sci-fi. So, if you're expecting a particularly deep dive on either one, you might be disappointed.

Historia
He wasn't born with the name Maniac Magee. He came into this world named Jeffrey Lionel Magee, but when his parents died and his life changed, so did his name. And Maniac Magee became a legend. Even today kids talk about how fast he could run; about how he hit an inside-the-park "frog" homer; about how no knot, no matter how snarled, would stay that way once he began to untie it. But the thing Maniac Magee is best known for is what he did for the kids from the East Side and those from the West Side.

My kids rated it infinite stars
Revisado: 09-20-20
My teacher read this to me as a kid and I still have great memories of it. My late brother would often recall it as well, so I knew it was a book I wanted my kids to experience. We read it together in the car, and I have to say the narration was better than expected. she's an excellent narrator. I am not familiar with her acting work, but my husband recognized her voice right away. She has a lovely voice and told the story with silly voices and great warmth. My kids were sad when it ended. We all enjoyed it very much.

Historia
More than 200 million years ago, geological forces split apart the continents. Isolated from each other, the two halves of the world developed radically different suites of plants and animals. When Christopher Columbus set foot in the Americas, he ended that separation at a stroke. Driven by the economic goal of establishing trade with China, he accidentally set off an ecological convulsion as European vessels carried thousands of species to new homes across the oceans.

There was a time when the woods near Duva ate girls - or so the story goes. But it's just possible that the danger may be a little bit closer to home. This story is a companion folk tale to Leigh Bardugo's debut novel, Shadow and Bone.

fantastic narrator, beautiful voice, great writing
Revisado: 08-24-19
I was unsure if I didn't like Leigh Bardugo's writing or if the Alina Starkhov story just didn't appeal to me. This book confirms that her writing does appeal to me, but Alina was not a relatable character. I thought I might like her after reading the backstory of one of the more interesting characters in Ruin and Rising, but this short story (?) Novella (?) Was A+ I don't have a single thing to criticize. The characters are great, the pacing is great, there isn't a bunch of fluff. I read this on audiobook and the narrator was excellent. Nothing but good things here.

The story is a little slow and much of the dry humor is lost on the kids, but EB White has a very beautiful voice and the addition of the trumpet really makes the story worth getting in audio format
