Historia
In 1979, Vincent Bianco has just graduated high school. His only desire: collect a little beer money and enjoy his final summer before college. So he lands a job as a laborer on a construction crew. Working alongside two Vietnam vets, one suffering from PTSD, Vincent gets the education of a lifetime. Now forty years later, with his own son leaving for college, the lessons of that summer - Vincent’s last taste of innocence and first taste of real life - dramatically unfold in a novel about breaking away, shaping a life, and seeking one’s own destiny.

What a well crafted and beneficial tale.
Revisado: 12-30-21
Throughout the listen I could not help but be impressed with the ability of the writer to interlink three generations of life experiences In such vivid detail. The story caused me to pause multiple times and reflect and recall my own "coming of age" as well as the memories of those who have been so influential in my Life. I would think that this book would benefit all wether it be by reviving memories, or learning vicariously, or by providing understanding and appreciation. Very impactful in many facets.

The Last Marine: Book One is author T.S. Ransdell’s vision of a future American dark age where all civilians serve at the pleasure of the government. In this dystopian tale Joel Levine, a journalist/historian for the government, is given the task of creating a history to remind people why the bygone American warrior culture was dangerous to them. To do so, Levine is given Government VIP status to interview the last known veteran of the disbanded United States Marine Corps, Sean Harris, incarcerated for the remainder of his life for murder and treason.

Just a bad choice of timing to listen to this one.
Revisado: 06-14-21
Just not what I thought it might be. Not the NCO Recon Operator or Gunny Sargent Combatant type of stories. Or even the Chosin Infantry type story.
The insertion early in the book of a story about a Major, who didn't know what "going dark" for a landing in Country meant, was a bit off-putting; that and the narrator made me pass and move on to a different listen within the first hour.

A refreshing/unique insight into the Vietnam war
Revisado: 06-01-21
After reading upward of 15 historical and biographical writings on the Vietnam War and respective soldiering unique to that saga, I am so glad to have come across this writing. The Narrator picks up on the deep but compelling sarcasm and times it perfectly in the audio presentation. I would only imagine that sarcasm, humor etc... would have played a role in the mental survival of these brave folks. I thank the author for getting this format of verbal illustration out to we listeners. I have already ordered the next two books by the Author.

Historia
In the glorious chronicles of the US Marine Corps, no name is more revered than that of Lt. Gen. Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller. The only fighting man to receive the Navy Cross five separate times - a military honor second only to the Congressional Medal of Honor - he was the epitome of a professional warrior.

Any military history buff knows the battle tales of this good man, but all will come to recognize the man and the human being this person truly was given the excellent interwoven personal testimonials of friends, loved ones and fellow military men placed throughout the story. A very enjoyable listen with true value added beyond military history.

Historia
The rumblings of war in distant countries mattered little to Danny McClain. Growing up in Chicago, his world revolved around afterschool jobs, a rescued beagle, his pen pal in Holland, and the Cubs' chance to go to the World Series. Then, in December of 1941, news of the attack on Pearl Harbor hit much too close to home. In a few years, Danny found himself in the copilot seat of a B-17, stationed with the 390th Bomb Group in Framlingham, England.

Great History filled fiction.
Revisado: 10-16-20
A very pleasant listen. a bit over the top narration once in awhile but overall a joy and a wonderful distraction from current "events" and makes you realize as bad as things seem now, just 80 years ago some evil folks that desired. nothing but power and control transformed the lives of millions and ended the lives of millions. yet, in and among it all there are stories such as this entwined within. Keep the Faith and enjoy a great story.

Historia
On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally - and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless."

Plays like a movie in the listeners mind. I will definitely look toward more Larson Books. The real life historical situations are so well noted and portrayed the listener can picture the scenes and know the personalities and emotions of the characters. Greatly Enjoyed this one!
