Historia
Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?

mesmerizing story, from beginning to end
Revisado: 06-11-21
this is the kind of book that makes you wish they added a few extra chapters, but it was still really fantastically written. the ending for the AF is very bitter sweet in my opinion, but Lent towards a very interesting story.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

In an Ireland doubly ravaged by war and disease, Nurse Julia Power works at an understaffed hospital in the city center, where expectant mothers who have come down with the terrible new flu are quarantined together. Into Julia's regimented world step two outsiders - Doctor Kathleen Lynn, a rumored Rebel on the run from the police, and a young volunteer helper, Bridie Sweeney. In the darkness and intensity of this tiny ward, over three days, these women change each other's lives in unexpected ways.

Engrossing from the very beginning
Revisado: 09-24-20
devastating on so many levels, hearing this story, especially during the current pandemic, was surreal to say the least. it showed how far we've come in some ways with medicine and what we consider acceptable treatment of poor and people and children in need.... but it also showed that we still seem doomed to repeat our pasts. but a fascinating read nonetheless.

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

A cheesy self-help book, through and through
Revisado: 07-27-20
very much struggle to finish this. hearing the author trying to make everything sound so dramatic was highly frustrating to say the least, and almost unbearable at times. we've developed a drinking game every time she said the word gold or golden, as this was very simplistically written, and often repetitive.a very interesting life story, but it's too bad that it was done under the guise of a cheesy self-help book.

Not all of the characters were as thoroughly explored as others, but overall it was a very good read, was completely engrossing from the very start, and above all, very important to know about having happened.

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

A lot darker than was led on to be
Revisado: 05-26-20
Read this book for a book club, I was told that it was a lot lighter and wittier then a lot of our typical book club books had been. But the story was quite serious and intense with a lot of very depressing and dark subject matters... important topics, but nonetheless this was a lot darker than we had thought it would be. Still, a very interesting story and extremely well read by Jim Broadbent.

When Elwood Curtis, a black boy growing up in 1960s Tallahassee, is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy, he finds himself trapped in a grotesque chamber of horrors. If you liked "13 Reasons Why", you'll like this
Revisado: 06-05-19
It was a very interesting way of telling the story through these four main characters, and I really liked that they all were read by different people. they compared it to breakfast club, but it really felt very very very similar to 13 Reasons Why.... not a bad thing, just very high school-esque and had similar nuances to the characters' personalities. It was very engaging though and I found myself looking forward to my commute so that I could listen to it some more. :-) Overall, very enjoyable as a easy breezy summer read.
