Historia
Rob Schneider’s childhood in the San Francisco Bay area with parents of mixed-race backgrounds shaped his view of the world: that America afforded the greatest opportunity for peoples from all nations and all faiths. Now, Rob keeps finding himself in controversy in Hollywood for expressing a few commonsense opinions about what woke ideology is doing to our great nation. With humor, Schneider takes on the current neoliberal authoritarians in America and argues we are living under a new kind of tyranny.

Rob has always delivered the punchlines well, but now he comes out punching sideways at lies and injustices that need to be addressed.

Historia
J. D. Vance grew up in the hills of Kentucky. His family and friends were the people most of the world calls rednecks, hillbillies or white trash. In this deeply moving memoir, Vance tells the story of his family’s demons and of America’s problem with generational neglect. How his mother struggled against, but never fully escaped, the legacies of abuse, alcoholism, poverty and trauma. How his grandparents, ‘dirt poor and in love’, gave everything for their children to chase the American dream. How Vance beat the odds to graduate from Yale Law School.

I didn’t know what to expect, and I grabbed this when the POTUS race was on to know more about JD. What I found was an even worse version of my 70/80s childhood with drugs instead of alcohol.
I’m glad he made himself. I’m glad he had the right family at the right time. I’m glad they all saw the qualities of JD and gave him a shot. Getting that support is critical. For want of a Meemaw, USA may have been lost, because JD was a big factor in the Trump win.
And now he is paying it forward in Spades. Thanks for the story you shared JD.

Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Not much else to say. It seems every Audible Original I try out is pretty bleh. I’m genuinely not moved by this work and it left me too apathetic to bother the critical analysis. Scalzi still has a few good moments but not his usual calibre.

Emmy-award winning gadfly Mike Rowe presents a ridiculously entertaining, seriously fascinating collection of his favorite episodes from America’s number-one short-form podcast, The Way I Heard It, along with a host of memories, ruminations, and insights. It’s a delightful collection of mysteries. A mosaic. A memoir. A charming, surprising must-have. Mike Rowe’s The Way I Heard It collects 35 fascinating stories “for the curious mind with a short attention span”.

What could I offer that would illuminate the depth of hidden meanings and twisted storylines with subtle lessons? Not a lot. Listen for yourself and discover a few good yarns (Aussie slang) of Mike’s life, friends, and historical events. It won’t be time wasted.

Humans expanded into space...only to find a universe populated with multiple alien species bent on their destruction. Thus was the Colonial Union formed, to help protect us from a hostile universe. The Colonial Union used the Earth and its excess population for colonists and soldiers. It was a good arrangement...for the Colonial Union. Then the Earth said: no more.

Spoiled by new performer and political ideologies.
Revisado: 12-29-24
It’s great to try new things, but don’t fix what isn’t broken. I love Scalzi’s stories but every now and then some woke garbage or personality hate slips through. Or you inject this new performer who apparently didn’t listen to the quality work of the original. It isn’t cool. Same as pushing hard right wing rhetoric. It makes me feel like it was written for a market, and damn those who aren’t interested that just happened to like the stuff that has drawn them to a writer. That is some hubris. I love my sci-fi to be just that, not a shadow commentary on current, unpopular thought experiments that have been resoundingly rejected. And not just this story but the Kaiju waste of time. Political social engineering experiments are like a p*#is. It’s great you have these ideas, but don’t wave them around in public and don’t shove them down everyone’s throat. Consent matters.

Historia
In the chaos following World War II, the US government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States. Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Historia
An artificial object made of compressed stardust is barreling toward Earth. Is it an invasion ship? A doomsday weapon? Perhaps it’s the final response of Squanto, the Warlord of Rigel who James McGill has repeatedly humiliated. Or could it be from the Mogwa, sent to avenge McGill’s assassination of Earth’s Imperial Governor? No one knows the truth of its origins, but the object is huge and unstoppable. Whoever hurled this rock at us isn’t answering our calls. Every weapon bounces off, and the people of Earth begin to go mad as they realize their destruction is only hours away.
