Historia
Based on Pope Benedict XVI's weekly teaching on the relationship between Christ and the Church, this book tells the drama of Jesus' first disciples—his Apostles and their associates—and how they spread Jesus' message throughout the ancient world. Far from distorting the truth about Jesus of Nazareth, insists Pope Benedict, the early disciples remained faithful to it, even at the cost of their lives.

Really great audiobook to simply play one chapter at a time and just listen. Nothing groundbreaking, but a lot of holy moments within.

Historia
In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus' final Passover, the night before he was crucified. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes.

Historia
Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a titanic figure among the world's great authors, and The Brothers Karamazov is often hailed as his finest novel. A masterpiece on many levels, it transcends the boundaries of a gripping murder mystery to become a moving account of the battle between love and hate, faith and despair, compassion and cruelty, good and evil.

Great Classic of Literature with Amazing Narration
Revisado: 12-07-22
The striving and contradictions of all of the Brothers Karamazov shine brilliantly I'm this novel. The narrator was amazing, and gives the kind of stark differentiation between characters that, for me, separates a good Audible book from a bad one. Highly, highly recommend.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Well Worth the Read, if a little Plodding at Times
Revisado: 09-28-22
The first 1/3 and the final 1/3 are amazing, while the middle section tends to drag a bit. However, in the end, that middle section helps set the stakes and build relationships that will play out towards the end of the book. The performances by the various actors truly make this a fun read. Would recommend

Historia
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge. Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

A Solid Spiritual Successor, Couldn't Put it Down
Revisado: 08-30-22
For some reason, I never fell in love with this story like I did with the Author's other work. But nonetheless, it was one that I devoured eagerly whenever given the chance. I'd say the mystery feels less central to this plot than in The Silent Patient, but still worthy of the author.

Historia
A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".

In the middle I waned, but by the end I was hooke
Revisado: 11-22-21
The pacing was off at times, but Nick Offerman's performance was always encouraging. It's not often in modern literature (or at least that which I have read as an adult) that children and their emotions are treated so respectfully. Granted, a lot of the implications are tongue in cheek, but it really does capture the grave reality of being 12 years old. Good read

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

Left Me Wanting More (in a bad way)
Revisado: 10-15-21
Gave it 3 stars because, while I wouldn't discourage someone from reading it, I probably would not recommend this as a stand-alone listen. The first 25% or so was good and actually included the eponymous Sandman. I greatly disliked the entire middle 40%. The middle had almost nothing to do with Morpheus, was full of virtue-signaling as opposed to an interest in exploring real characters, and was overall bland and uninspired While I enjoyed the final few stories, they too were mostly short vignettes with little to do with the main plot. this just left me wanting more (and not in a good way). Hopefully Gaiman can get back to basics in future productions. as always, cast, music, narration, was all amazing. This time it was just the writing

When The Sandman, also known as Lord Morpheus - the immortal king of dreams, stories and the imagination - is pulled from his realm and imprisoned on Earth by a nefarious cult, he languishes for decades before finally escaping. Once free, he must retrieve the three “tools” that will restore his power and help him to rebuild his dominion, which has deteriorated in his absence.

Pretty Good Book but Vastly Inexperienced Narrator
Revisado: 09-10-21
I liked this book, it was maybe a little underwhelming, but still enjoyable and creative enough. Feels a bit like reading a YA Novel as opposed to its label of fiction. This is one of those audio books where it is painfully obvious to interpret how the author INTENDED a line of dialogue to be said, and notice how different it is actually presented here.

Historia
In this indispensable volume, one of America's ranking scholars combines a life's work of research and teaching with the art of lively narration. Both authoritative and beautifully told, The Middle Ages is the full story of the thousand years between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance - a time that saw the rise of kings and emperors, the flowering of knighthood, the development of Europe, the increasing power of the Catholic Church, and the advent of the middle class.
