Great fun!!
Revisado: 10-13-20
I was lucky to stumble upon this book from my Audible account's recommendations. I have always had a knack for time travel stories, and this book does not disappoint!! The story and plot points are especially good if you read it with an open mind. The adventure is great fun with twists and turns. The science makes sense, but it is very much on the far side of fiction. The author does try very hard to justify the technologies and how it makes sense in our reality. Like I said, read this book with an open mind and let the story guide you! The book was easy to follow with the right amount of variety that it does not get stale. The time travel portions were very interesting too -- it had just the right amount of "huh" moments that are followed by realization points during the explanations later on.
The characters were also well developed and you can easily understand which character is what. The narrator did a pretty good job with the different voice tones to signify different characters. Like other reviews, I do agree that the dialogue is somewhat stiff and a bit unnatural at points. However, it is not terrible and doesn't affect my ability to enjoy the story.
The last act of the book feels a little bit rushed, in my opinion. The author could have run his imagination a bit further to make it even more dramatic. There are two plot points that were not explained and that left an uneasy feeling after I finished the book.... I wonder if this was on accident, or if this is pending an explanation on the sequel that the author is writing (according to his Facebook page) .
Can't wait to check out the sequel!

Whoaaaa
Revisado: 12-08-18
I was so happy to see that NVC released a new book! I purchased this without reading the synopsis and was hooked immediately. While it was not as complex as Book 3, this cat-and-mouse story was exhilarating and contained multiple multiple twists. NVC has a very unique talent of being unpredictable, keeping his audience engaged. I try not to predict whenever I listen to my audiobooks, but it's kind of hard to not do so, you know? But the funny thing is, even if I try with NVC's books, I always fail!! This is a good thing haha. Anyways, this is a very very good book! Pick it up and read it. The final closing chapters are sooo goooood, like always ;)
Neil Hellegers does another fine job capturing the emotions of the book. I can't imagine a better narrator. 5/5 for him!

Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Couldn't Stop Listening
Revisado: 07-01-18
I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews about the book. I have read Ready Player One and Ender's Game prior to this one. If you have liked any of those and can exhibit an open-mind with new books, then you will find it extremely captivating. Armada isn't a sequel to Ready Player One -- and it shouldn't be! It is its own book with a great story that is well-written.
While the premise is simple, it's the actual underlying story and mechanics that drive the story. I found the protagonist to be very likable. Ernest Cline was able to explore the protagonist and lead him through a variety of twists, turns, actions, highs, lows, and everything! In fact, it has a very similar adventure-vibe to Ready Player One. I loved the references of pop culture that he would throw in, even though I was not familiar with several of them. I don't think that it was superfluous or overwhelming that other reviews mentioned. I thought it was just as equally appropriate as Ready Player One.
The final chapters do feel like it was a bit rushed. It's not because it has a bad ending though. It just seems like, if I was the author, I would have milked out some more details to make it even more exciting than it already was. However, it is not terrible... it just could be better. The story concludes well and ends on a definitive note, so you don't have to worry about any unresolved endings.
Lastly, the narrator was excellent!! He yelled when it was appropriate and also cried when it was appropriate. Great inflection, clear voice, and on-point pace.

Excellent Read
Revisado: 07-01-18
Although the first two chapters was relatively slow, it was an important setting for a magnificent story. The pace definitely picks up from there. The story is beautifully written, weaving between future and past in a very creative way. While I thought that the survival aspects of the story might be boring, it was quite the contrary. The story was so captivating that I couldn't stop myself from listening for hours at a time. While it is difficult to summarize the plot in a couple sentences, you shouldn't worry. The characters all face continuous challenges and drama at every chapter, allowing the plot to steadily pace its way from beginning to end.
Like Jerry Merritt's other books, his details are rich, flawless, and very believable. All of the characters are extremely very personal and likable.
The narrator also did an excellent job maneuvering through the various characters and impersonating each of their unique voices.
Definitely give this book a try!!!

An Extraordinary Adventure of Timeless Love
Revisado: 06-24-18
This novel was amazingly written!! With its beautiful plot and captivating characters, the author blended time-travel with a love story that was beyond what I imagined. The plot is quite complicated to explain in a review, but it pretty much tells the story of an unexpected encounter between the main protagonist and an unknown lady one night. After assisting her, the lady offered the main character a chance to travel back to his younger-self and relive it.
The pace was great; a real page-turner. It was truly difficult to put the book down, since the plot was just so addictive!!
The narrator was superb! He had great inflection and was able to mimic various important accents that tied to key characters. He spoke in a steady pace that was easy to understand.
Even if you don't like time travel, please check out this book. It is not generic at all!!! The story won't disappoint you!

Love It
Revisado: 05-20-18
Nathan van Coops is back at it again with another thrilling time travel adventure. This is a short-story though!!! I wished it was longer and had more twists. However, I can't complain with how the book began and ended. I felt like the author wanted to add a lot more intricate details but refrained from it. There was so much room for Nathan to thicken the plot as he usually does. However, it was perfectly fine the way it ended up!
Only downside is that Nathan van Coops utilized several references to his "In Times Like These" series. If you haven't read those books, you may be a little bit confused on the mechanism of the time travel in this book.
The narrator was great!

Amazing!!
Revisado: 05-18-18
This book consists of three short and separate stories surrounding the main character, Lertty Dobesh. Although they are their own stories, they all build upon one another in terms of character development. Blake Crouch was masterful in crafting the main character, the sub-characters, and especially the environment. I can totally envision the bright neon sky of the Las Vegas strip and the eerie silence of a moonlit island.
The first story is a mind-numbing thriller, the second is an infiltration thriller, and the third is an action-based casino heist. All three stories have their own unique twists!
Lastly, I LOVE the narrator. Many times, an audiobook falters simply because the narrator's voice is too annoying or harsh. In regards to Julia Whelan, she was excellent -- her voice was soooo easy to listen to. She knew when and where to accentuate and alter the tone of her voice. It all happens very subtly and steadily, making it even more realistic. She was also able to characterize the various characters flawlessly, allowing the listener to vividly envision the distinctive characters.

Something is missing...
Revisado: 04-27-18
If you’ve listened to books by Nathan Van Coops before, how does this one compare?
I have read all of Nathan Van Coops's Chronos time travel series and expected similar pacing with wit. However, this book was completely stale and the pace was unbearable. While the world was full of imagination and the qualities of the species were creative, I was not able to connect with any of the characters. It almost made me felt like this book was a side-book that was begging to be finished by Nathan. I am a little more than halfway through and I'm still not yet hooked on the book.
It definitely feels like there is a certain element that i missing from the book that makes me want to continue. I doubt I will finish this one.
What does Jayme Mattler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator was excellent in narrating the story and emoting the various characters. Tone was easy to listen to (not too bassy or not too squeaky).

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, the book seems to force as much as scientific words as it can in a sentence. Never in my life have I heard so much science jargon in a book that just makes it seemingly unnatural and annoying. The narrator also could use some work: I understand the need for inflection of tone and volume, but the audio is very improperly mixed in this one. There will be moments when the narrator's voice suddenly goes strikingly loud, like nails on a chalkboard. I could not finish the audiobook and don't intend to.
