Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Beautifully written and narrated but horribly depressing
Revisado: 08-23-23
I like to read for entertainment but also enjoy historical fiction. Although this book is extremely well written and the narration. Is excellent it just left me totally depressed. It’s a long listen and it’s just a series of tragedies and disappointments. But it’s probably very realistic. I stick it out to the end. I guess it made me grateful for all the good things in my life

Surprisingly Good!
Revisado: 12-12-22
I love historical fiction but am not a huge fan of supernatural themes. I listened to this book because I am acquainted with the author but I did not have high expectations. Wow, was I surprised! This is a gripping story that kept me wanting to make more time to listen. It's really a good historical tale set in a women's asylum in New York City when women were often at the mercy of their husbands. Although there is a supernatural element to the story, it is not the theme and it only a small part of the story - small enough to be entirely believable. I can say that I enthusiastically recommend this book! Can't wait for the next one.

Another great job by Follett
Revisado: 06-14-18
Ken Follett makes history so much fun. I love his books and this one was no exception. I'm looking forward to doing more research on the real events and people in this book. to me, that's the mark of great historical fiction.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Good Story - Poor Narration
Revisado: 08-18-17
Any additional comments?
The book was good enough to put up with the annoying narration. It seemed as if the narrator had not read the book in advance so had no idea where to put emphasis on words in a sentence. I would think Michael Connelley could command a first class narrator - not the case here. Makes me wonder if this series is being set up from the start for a TV series starring the narrator. Only thing that makes sense.

Good Story buy I feel a little Betrayed!

Any additional comments?
I've been a fan of the Myron Bolitar series and read Live Wire. A couple months later I started this book and let's just say I was pretty confused. It seemed like I had missed a book as there was a major life changing event that seemed to have occurred. I even had to go back and listen again to the ending of Live Wire to make sure I wasn't going nuts. Well, I'm guessing the events happened in the separate Mickey Bolitar series, which I didn't read because I thought they were aimed at a younger audience. So despite enjoying the story, I was frankly just a bit mad.
