My goal was to get the summary so I could decide whether to get the book. It succeeded in that expectation.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

An eyeopening must read for ALL Americans

I truly do wish every adult and junior in high school could read this book or listen to this audiobook.
I wouldn't be surprised if J. D. Vance ran for president one day as he comes across as having the perspective that made Clinton, Obama and Kennedy give so many people hope but with aspects of conservatism that remind me of GOP leaders like Reagan.
He doesn't fit neatly into either political affiliation and that's a good thing.
So yeah, I'm basically comparing this to 'Dreams of My Father' by Barack Obama. What's awesome is that he's only 31 so he's got some time to polish up on his policies and get into public service.
The story provides context that someone who isn't white and working class would never have exposure to because as he put it 'they don't take well to outsiders'.
To me it was the real life that shows like 'Dukes of Hazzard', 'Roseanne' and 'All in the Family' dramatized but with a harsh edge that has its extreme ups and downs.
If you check this out and don't like it let me know why - I'm @crose on Twitter and welcome the feedback.
In this crazed climate I think a better understanding and open dialogue is what's needed.
