Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Lack of research
Revisado: 11-15-24
Were this a work of fiction, it would be a 5 star review. Unfortunately the author seems to rely solely on interviews for her information, and the cited interviews in the text are not always reputable sources of information (a social media influencer even makes an appearance). Interviews can be good sources of information, but they have to be backed up, or if necessary refuted, by the author’s own research.
Having said that the book is entertaining. If you approach it as an interesting story rather than an actually possible scenario or source of information regarding nuclear weapons, then you’ll enjoy it.

Historia
In The Cold War, Odd Arne Westad offers a new perspective on a century when a superpower rivalry and an ideological war transformed every corner of our globe. We traditionally think of the Cold War as a post-World War II diplomatic and military conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. But in this major new work, Westad argues that the conflict must be understood as a global ideological confrontation with roots in the industrial revolution and with continuing implications for the world today.

Amazing history - Bad audio mastering
Revisado: 08-21-24
This is an excellent history of the cold war that focuses more on global aspects of the conflict than domestic issues in the US or USSR. Its one flaw is that the audio mastering is truly terrible. Quieter in general than almost any other audiobook, the volume levels also have a tendency to jump up and down, as if the narrator was moving closer and farther from the mic, and an engineer didn’t make any attempt to fix it. Setting aside the mastering, The narrator’s performance is good.

An emotional read!
Revisado: 05-29-22
This book is excellent! No complaints about either the story or performance. My only complaint is about MZB herself, but she is dead now so she’s not profiting when you buy this. Obviously very long but also worth it.

Not riveting. Stately
Revisado: 02-09-16
The narrator perfectly captures the tone of Both Henry & Will. And the story is one we know well. But the entirely different perspective makes it all new again!

Great Book, HORRIFYING narrator
Revisado: 09-14-15
Would you try another book from T.A. Barron and/or Kevin Isola?
Definitely Barron, Definitely not Isola
Who was your favorite character and why?
Merlin, duh. the book is about Merlin. although bumblewee is pretty great too
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kevin Isola?
Literally anyone else. this guy was terrible, it's read in this ear rattling teeth grinding faux british accent that makes me want to die
Do you think The Seven Songs of Merlin needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
yep, because it's a series
Any additional comments?
narrator ruined this book for me.
