Fun story and characters hurt by poor narrator
Revisado: 08-20-20
I've enjoyed all of books in this series. Fun cozy mysteries and enjoyable to listen to normally. This new narrator made most of the male voices sound weirdly munchkin-esque. The narrator lacks the ability to nuance her voice and create an enjoyable cast of character voices. She made Emily and Jane sound like two gruff men. It made this particular book rather grating to listen to even though I had initially been excited to see a new book in this series. I hope the series will continue, but PLEASE choose a more accomplished narrator!

Historia
In need of a good adventure, Delaney Nichols takes the leap and moves to Edinburgh, Scotland, to start a job at The Cracked Spine. She doesn't know much about what she's gotten herself into other than that the work sounds exciting and that her new boss, Edwin MacAlister, has given her the opportunity of a lifetime.

Ok to pass the time
Revisado: 09-29-17
The story doesn't have a natural flow and feels forced as Delaney investigates. Actually a lot of the story has a forced feeling to it. While the narrator is good at the Scottish accent and men's voices, she makes the 29 year old Delaney sound like a middle-aged woman.
There are much better cozy mysteries than this series. I never had the "what's next" feeling of anticipation. I liked Paige Shelton's other series, but surprisingly this book was flat.

Historia
Finley Jayne knows she's not "normal". Normal girls don't lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things. Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she's offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience. Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned.

A good introduction to the series
Revisado: 05-20-17
What did you like best about The Strange Case of Finley Jayne? What did you like least?
Though the story is short, it's still a fun intro to the series. I read the book awhile back and liked it and decided to listen to it through Audible. The narrator does an atrocious characterization of Finley. She is written as a 16 year old "slip of a girl" and from the cover artwork she's attractive. The narrator gives her a thug-like masculine voice that sounds like a high school play where someone is very poorly imitating a horribly awkward Cockney accent. The other female voices are fine - so why make the main character sound so ridiculous?
If the rest of the books are recorded, I hope the author will have some say in a better narrator.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Narrator has no clue how to do a Cockney accent in a natural manner. Main character's voice was highly irritating.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the series and hope the rest will come to Audible (with a different narrator - Fiona Hardingham would be a wonderful choice!)

Meg Murry, her little brother Charles Wallace, and their mother are having a midnight snack on a dark and stormy night when an unearthly stranger appears at their door. He claims to have been blown off course and goes on to tell them that there is such a thing as a "tesseract", which, if you didn't know, is a wrinkle in time. Meg's father had been experimenting with time travel when he suddenly disappeared. Will Meg, Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin outwit the forces of evil as they search through space for their father?

Hope Davis really put on a wonderful one woman performance of this classic book. I think a listener of any age will be delighted with this marvelous story and the outstanding narration.
