Historia
Believing that someone is trying to murder her, gorgeous Jane Wetherby asks Hamish Macbeth to spend Christmas with her and an exclusive group of friends at her Scottish island health farm. With a cold in his head and no place to go for the holidays, Hamish accepts her invitation. He thinks the lady is a bit daft, but, arriving on the lonely isle of Eileencraig, he feels a prickle of foreboding. The locals are openly threatening; the other guests, especially a terrible snob named Heather Todd, are barely civil.

Laughed out loud!
Revisado: 11-27-20
Another fun whodunnit in the Hamish Macbeth series. This one has some added humor from the locals. In 2020 Hamish couldn't get away with some of his remarks, but he says what he pleases and sometimes it makes me lol! A nice escape village mystery.

Historia
An astonishing tip from a grateful ex-convict seems implausible - but Inspector Ian Rutledge is intrigued and brings it to his superior at Scotland Yard. Alan Barrington, who has evaded capture for 10 years, is the suspect in an appalling murder during Black Ascot, the famous 1910 royal horse race honoring the late King Edward VII. His disappearance began a manhunt that consumed Britain for a decade. Now, it appears that Barrington has returned to England, giving the Yard a last chance to retrieve its reputation and see justice done.

Another strong addition to the Ian Rutledge series
Revisado: 02-21-19
Enjoyed the story and the progression of Ian Rutledge's character.
However, I found the narration to be really bothersome. There has always been a noticeable change in the narrator's voice in previous books from time to time. I've always chalked it up to multiple recordings pieced together to form the audio book.
in this story however, it wasn't just the change in voice from time to time - it was from sentence to sentence and even a few words in the middle of a sentence. It sounds as though 2 people narrated it. it is very disrupting since it takes you away from the story and makes you wonder if they've changed characters again in the narration. I'm not talking about using different voices for characters, that sounds natural and helps build the story. I'm talking about what feels like cut and paste audio editing!
It wasn't just 3 or 4 times either, I lost count. Very distracting and sadly, took away from the performance.
