Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Murder mystery masquerading as SciFi
Revisado: 02-11-25
I couldn't finish it. Too many characters to keep track of (typical to a murder mystery to obfuscate the killer) and the "SciFi" seemed tacked on. Meh. But Wil Wheaton is awesome as always!

Historia
We are entering a new technological age in which artificial intelligence and immersive media will transform society at all levels, mediating our lives by altering what we see, hear, and experience. If managed well, this could unleash a new age of abundance. If managed poorly, this technological revolution could easily go astray, compromising our privacy, autonomy, agency, and humanity. Two industry veterans provide a data-driven debate on whether the new world we're creating will be a technological utopia or an AI-powered dystopia and give guidance on how to aim for the best future we can.

Poor thought process on need for government regulation.
Revisado: 02-08-25
This is a VERY bad take on needing to slow down and create national and even international regulation on AI and it's use with AR/VR. I could not disagree more with the author.

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Great story, not the best narration.
Revisado: 12-27-22
I loved the story and look forward to more but it took some effort to get past the narration. I found it a bit monotone and lifeless. Not enough differentiation between voices. It took a bit away from the experience.

Revisado: 08-21-22
Given that I would, after the Bobiverse, read any book by Dennis Taylor and listen to any narration by Ray Porter, this was a no-brainer, but it certainly did not disappoint. Good, clean, sci-fi fun! Can't wait for the next book.

Historia
Twenty years ago, it was as if someone turned on a light. The future blazed into existence with each deliberate word that William Gibson laid down. The winner of Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards, Neuromancer didn't just explode onto the science fiction scene - it permeated into the collective consciousness, culture, science, and technology.Today, there is only one science fiction masterpiece to thank for the term "cyberpunk," for easing the way into the information age and Internet society.

Historia
When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small Online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralized software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks. The Bitcoin Standard analyzes the historical context to the rise of Bitcoin, the economic properties that have allowed it to grow quickly, and its likely economic, political, and social implications.

Great book with a few small flaws
Revisado: 02-15-22
Incredible telling of the back story of money and the benefits of sound, hard money and the downsides of our current government controlled inflationary fiat currency. Being 4 years old it's a bit dated and one sided on its support of BTC at the expense of all other cryptocurrency and I think the intervening time has proven the author wrong on the lack of any useful purpose for any crypto beyond BTC. Still a great & highly educational read for all but the 2 final sections of the last chapter.

Good & Bad
Revisado: 10-04-21
Good explanation of the power and potential of exponential technological change. However, in my opinion, too much hand-wringing about how unfair it will be and way too much emphasis on the need for government to step in to control, regulate, break-up and protect us all from big tech.
