Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-18-21
I read for entertainment or education. This was neither. This is the last of Daniel Silva's books that I will ever read. Quite the turnabout for a fan who has read all of the series and waited with bated breath for the next to appear.
While there were snippets of Trump hatred or loathing scattered throughout the book, the last 90 minutes was a virtual orgy of non-stop Trump bashing. If I want to hear this one-sided crap, which I occaionally do, I'll turn on MSNBC or find any of the other media outlets to listen to the leadership of the Democrat party ... from the big cities to the congressional level ... or the chuckleheads who masquerade as news anchors on most networks.
SPOILER ALERT When Allon was shot, I figured that this was the end of the series. Seemed to fit since he had apparantly written off a large portion of his fan base with the over the top foisting of his politics into the book. But alas, Gabriel recovers to continue the series and Daniel Silva will, I'm sure, continue to write and get wealthier (the American Dream) while holding in contempt many of the fans who have afforded him the opportunity to live the good life in Boca. What a great country. Won't be any of my monry though ... and judging by the reviews on Audible and GoodReads, there are many, if not most, who feel the same way.
Must be galling to be forced to live in a state doing so well, run by a Trump style conservative (Gov DeSantis), and just down the road from President Trump.
RIP Gabriel Allon
Performance note - While I missed having George Guidall do the narration, Edoardo Ballerini did a great job.

Historia
Jack Ryan, Jr., would do anything for Ding Chavez. That's why Jack is currently sitting in an open-air market in Israel, helping a CIA team with a simple job. It's a cushy assignment - a trip to Israel in exchange for a couple hours of easy work, but Jack could use the downtime after his last operation. Jack is here merely as an observer, but when he hastens to help a woman and her young son, he finds himself the target of trained killers. Alone and outgunned, Jack will have to use all his skills to protect the life of the child.

Worst Jack Ryan Jr book
Revisado: 06-30-21
I have listened to All of the Jack Ryan and Jack Ryan Jr Books. The performance was OK but the story was shallow, predictable and repetitve. I look forward to the next book in the Jack Ryan Jr. series ... by one of the proven authors of the franchise.

Historia
When a Blanco County hog hunter goes missing after a fight with his girlfriend, it's not a laughing matter - even when one of today's hottest blue-collar comedians is a suspect. Game warden John Marlin joins forces with the sheriff's department once again to root through the clues and discover the truth. Meanwhile, two of the county's most notorious poachers - Red O'Brien and Billy Don Craddock - decide to launch an investigation of their own, and the cops are not amused.

Another enjoyable romp through Blanco County
Revisado: 08-07-18
A great book to listen to between more serious tomes. The Blanco County series is kind of a west Texas version of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. An easy, quick listen that is light but satisfying.

Historia
Though the Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion, it does not specify what qualifies as a religion. From its founding in the 1830s, Mormonism, a homegrown American faith, has drawn thousands of converts but far more critics. In A Peculiar People, J. Spencer Fluhman offers a comprehensive history of anti-Mormon thought and the associated passionate debates about religious authenticity in 19th-century America.

What did you like about this audiobook?
Thos book would be infinitely better if it were 5 1/2 hours shorter.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
I'm still interested in the subject matter and I hope to soon read an interesting book that I can learn from. I bought this book hoping to learn about the history and development of the Mormon faith but instead ... the author attempts to regale the reader with more than 6 1/2 hours of the dryest, repetitve, and verbose history of how the Mormons were persecuted by narrow minded, parochial zealots. He manages to do this in a manner that would make listening to William F. Buckley read a 500 page textbook on differential equations seem breathtakingly exciting. While the narrator did a good job reading the material, not even Scott Brick could make this worth listening to. Save your credit and 6 1/2 hours of your life. Here's the Cliff Notes version... The Mormons were persecuted by virtually everyone from New York to Salt Lake City and it wasn't until they renounced polygamy in 1890 as part of the official doctrine did they start to be accepted by American society and religious communities.
