Historia
Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. Detective Sergeant DC Smith could listen to some music, make some of his own, and maybe even catch up on his reading; he is almost looking forward to it. And then there is a knock on the door. It's only his next-door neighbor, but it is the beginning of a sequence of events that will bring him face to face with some of the darkest episodes and the most dangerous people from his own past.

Historia
Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Historia
In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a crank and a recluse is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then, a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon, other bodies are discovered, in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. If only anyone would pay her mind....

Boring and a penis size joke?
Revisado: 08-03-23
Boring. Stupid penis size joke from the Boomer era. Way too much astrology and astrological descriptions. Wanted to like it. Disappointed.

How has this gotten so many great reviews? I find it boring, cheesy, poorly written and just overall flat. Complete waste of money and time.

Historia
With more than two million copies of her novels sold, New York Times best-selling author Geraldine Brooks has achieved both popular and critical acclaim. Now, Brooks takes on one of literature's richest and most enigmatic figures: a man who shimmers between history and legend. Peeling away the myth to bring David to life in Second Iron Age Israel, Brooks traces the arc of his journey from obscurity to fame, from shepherd to soldier, from hero to traitor, from beloved king to murderous despot and into his remorseful and diminished dotage.

Skip this one, not like her later books. Boring.
Revisado: 02-08-23
Had high hopes for this book as I really enjoyed later books by this author. Unfortunately, it is really slow and
Incredibly boring for the first 2/3 or more. Too bad, the subject matter had great potential.

Historia
This ambitious, electrifying work traces the harrowing journey of the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, a beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in 15th-century Spain. When it falls to Hanna Heath, an Australian rare-book expert, to conserve this priceless work, the series of tiny artifacts she discovers in its ancient binding—an insect wing fragment, wine stains, salt crystals, a white hair—only begin to unlock its deep mysteries.

Wonderful story, distracting narrator.
Revisado: 01-23-23
Main narrative character is great. When she switches to male voices, and especially the “ancient” voices or any with a European or middle eastern origin, the voices sound so fake and childlike it is almost impossible to listen to. Really almost ruined this great story.

Terrible narration
Revisado: 10-01-22
This narrator doesn’t pause at sentences, his inflection is distracting and off-putting and he doesn’t know how to do alternate voices without making the characters sound stupid, s-l-o-w and unreal. He is ruining the book and this series.
