Tell a stranger that you talk to yourself, and you’re likely to get written off as eccentric. But the truth is that we all have a voice in our head. When we talk to ourselves, we often hope to tap into our inner coach but find our inner critic instead. When we’re facing a tough task, our inner coach can buoy us up: Focus - you can do this. But, just as often, our inner critic sinks us entirely: I’m going to fail. They’ll all laugh at me. What’s the use?

Good Implementable Information
Revisado: 02-23-21
It's not the most exciting to listen to. There is a lot of science that can sound dry, but the overall concepts are really important and transformative. I needed to listen in small doses. Luckily and conclusion really sums it up and puts everything in a nice order to refer back to instead of digging throughout.

Great life lessons
Revisado: 12-01-20
Really appreciated this book. A lot of life lessons that can sound so obvious when he speaks them, yet can allude us and be difficult to put into practice when we aren't in balance with our sense of Why and Golden Circle. As I'm in the process of joining a new organization that is trying to reinvent itself and has the opposite rebuild our culture from scratch, this was incredibly timely and is helpful to lean on to ask hard questions and self reflect.

Absolutely loved this adapted story, aided by wonderful narrators. So many of life's questions and lessons, broken down into meaningful and relatable lessons and situations. I know that I'll find myself listening to this again. We are all human, we are all holy. Our world needs you to listen to this.

Historia
This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

Fun Listen!
Revisado: 05-28-20
Enjoyed the storyline and the fantasy involved; definitely a fun car ride book. As a pilot, it was fun to hear a daring story around aviation, even if embellished. As it neared the end it seemed to accelerate the story line a bit too fast for me and then ended abruptly without a solid closing. Yes, it was a bit of a cliffhanger but it just seemed abrupt and awkward. Great performance by the narrators though!

Kiese Laymon is a fearless writer. In his essays, personal stories combine with piercing intellect to reflect both on the state of American society and on his experiences with abuse, which conjure conflicted feelings of shame, joy, confusion, and humiliation. Laymon invites us to consider the consequences of growing up in a nation wholly obsessed with progress yet wholly disinterested in the messy work of reckoning with where we’ve been.

Listen, Read it, and Listen again
Revisado: 05-02-20
I am so impressed with the book and his ability to articulate so many complex topics. My words cannot explain the depths this book goes too. Absolute raw humanity. He makes you dig deep, and as a white woman of privilege it makes me step back and realize how many perspectives and experiences in the world I am, and have been ignorant too. I need to get this book in print and journal alongside it. I need to keep reading, keep learning, keep opening my lens to people, America and the world. His painfully honest introspection and ability to showcases multiple viewpoints while adding the 'whys' and assumptions is profound. This should be required reading/listening. Thank you Kiese for writing what needed to be said, not what we all want to hear.

Absolutely fell in love with this book!
Revisado: 12-21-19
I stumbled upon this book, and I'm so glad I did. The characters and the small town draw you in and before you know it you love them all and can relate to so many of their struggles and personalities. Plus, it was lovely to take a new perspective on how reading, and books in general, can truly expand the mind by providing knowledge, relief, fun, or an escape into a world apart. Plus, the story line of strong women learning and joining together for a progressive cause was empowering. It reminds you that so many people who came before you laid the foundation for change, particularly for women.

Thriller in more than one way!
Revisado: 06-17-19
Really enjoyed the thrill of the first half of the book. I was surprised at the turn it took as it progressed into the second half, but I quickly was intrigued and redirected and the book was gripping all the way to the end. Great story and the information provided always kept you guessing and surprised. Also, the narrator did a great job and made all the foreign language sections seamless.

Revisado: 03-22-19
I still enjoyed the overall story line and felt I really needed to hear the whole story from Book 1-3, but it felt disjointed in parts and lacked having lessons so well defined by the scrolls as they were in previous books. Great narration though!

Great story, fun narrator
Revisado: 12-22-18
Narrator was wonderful. Took a bit to get into the story since I'm not an avid gamer and don't know all the 80s references, but as the story progressed I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the main character perspective and the woven in friendships.

Narrator was great and the story was a very fascinating perspective of both Afghanistan and women managing families during war time. I enjoyed the epilogue which gave updates on the characters futures as well. What strength and courage these women have.
