Historia
After scant days in his “real” world, Thomas Covenant finds himself again summoned to a strange world of magic and Earthpower. There, 40 bitter years have passed, while Lord Foul, immortal enemy of the Land, moves to fulfill his prophecy of doom - his countless minions are already on the march, cutting a devastating swath of destruction across the Land. The Council of Lords find their spells useless, however, now that Foul the Despiser holds the Illearth Stone, the ancient talisman of evil.

Great book by a master performer
Revisado: 08-17-21
I think The Illearth War is the pinnacle of the Thomas Covenant series - which is a little odd since he plays a much smaller part in this book. And Scott Brick is an absolute master at audio books. He does a superb job, especially in capturing the Bloodguards oddly inflected speech.

Not Gripping, Not Informative Enough
Revisado: 11-05-20
The book itself couldn't capture my attention well...which I think is a serious fault in a book about storytelling. And overall I didn't think it really conveyed enough information on how to tell a story well in a leadership context.

Historia
Hilketa is a frenetic and violent pastime where players attack each other with swords and hammers. The main goal of the game: obtain your opponent's head and carry it through the goalposts. With flesh and bone bodies, a sport like this would be impossible. But all the players are "threeps", robot-like bodies controlled by people with Haden's Syndrome, so anything goes. No one gets hurt, but the brutality is real, and the crowds love it. Until a star athlete drops dead on the playing field.

Engaging mystery set in a fascinating world. Great follow up to Locked In. I hope there will be another.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Only a short story

I thought I was getting a novel, but it's only a short story. Good for what it is I guess.

Historia
For most people, the story of their lives is just that: the accumulation of time, encounters, and actions into a cohesive whole. But for an unfortunate few, that day-to-day existence is affected - perhaps infected is a better word - by memetic incursion: where fairy tale narratives become reality, often with disastrous results.

Masterful Audiobook
Revisado: 09-18-14
Where does Indexing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Middling
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The story was just not to my taste, the fairy tales element. Some of it was a little predictable, the characters a little too...wooden.
Which scene was your favorite?
When snow white ate the apple. Don't want to spoil anything by saying more about it.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No, sorry.
Any additional comments?
Mostly all I care about an audiobook is that the story is good and the narrator doesn't get in the way. But this book is worth listening to just for the narration. It is MASTERFUL. The way she switches voices between Snow White and Henry was amazing. And her Snow was just so dead on. I was drawn into a story I didn't care that much about by the masterful narration and I highly recommend this book.
