Historia
Over her decades as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Mona Delahooke has routinely counseled distraught parents who struggle to manage their children’s challenging, sometimes oppositional behaviors. These families are understandably focused on correcting or improving a child’s lack of compliance, emotional outbursts, tantrums, and other “out of control” behavior. But, as she has shared with these families, a perspective shift is needed. Behavior, no matter how challenging, is not the problem but a symptom; a clue about what is happening in a child’s unique physiologic makeup.

Very actionable, realistic guidance - some of which I’ve already tried with my 20-month-old and has yielded sweet, amazing, and fun results!

She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

I’m fascinated by the lessons and looking forward to trying some things out when my kiddo is a little older. I wish some of the tools and suggestions had come with suggested ages or other milestones of maturity, because I’m thinking that some of the things might be too “early” for my kiddo, as described…

Historia
Greer Kirshenbaum, PhD. is a neuroscientist, doula, and parent. Her work began with the goal of developing new treatments for poor mental health; she dreamed of creating a new medication to address conditions like anxiety, depression, addiction, and chronic stress. Over time, she realized that science had already uncovered a powerful medicine for alleviating mental health struggles, but the answer wasn’t a pill. It was a preventative approach: when babies' receive nurturing care in the first three years of life, it builds strong, resilient brains.

Revisado: 02-21-24
There’s so much conflicting information out there, and the myth busting formula of this book really spoke to me. Very helpful tools and frameworks, as well as simple examples of applications of the concepts. I’m going to be part of the nurture revolution.

In this ferociously imaginative novel, abortion is once again illegal in America, in vitro fertilization is banned, and the Personhood Amendment grants rights of life, liberty, and property to every embryo. In a small Oregon fishing town, five very different women navigate these new barriers alongside age-old questions surrounding motherhood, identity, and freedom.

Wonderful read
Revisado: 11-09-22
The reading is particularly masterful, given the various main characters who comprise the threads of the main story. I picked up this book on a recommendation from a list of pertinent readings at the overturn of Roe v Wade, and I am glad and grateful to have spent the time with these compelling female characters who are navigating a world not so different from the one we’re in here and now.

Great content- better if you're taking notes
Revisado: 03-02-20
This book has a lot of practical, practice-able things, supported by research, which the author shares amply. There are a lot of bulleted and numbered lists of ideas, so if you're a person like me and some of those things run together in the audio but would make more sense in the visual, I might recommend getting this one in print rather than audio.

The writing was clearly for young adult readers - which I should have guessed. My millennial crowd loves Carmen Sandiego in a nostalgic way, and I was hoping for the book to be a little more sophisticated.
