Really enjoyed learning about the real life amateur online sleuth subculture. The book is loaded with case studies told in a narrative fashion full of interesting descriptions and insight.

Historia
Twelve-year-old Maren is sure theater camp isn’t for her. Theater camp is for loud, confident, artsy people: people like her older sister, Hadley and her cinema-obsessed, nonbinary bunkmate, Theo. But when a prank goes wrong, Maren gets drawn into the hunt for a diamond ring that, legend has it, is linked to the camp’s namesake, Charlotte “Charlie” Goodman, a promising director in blacklist-era Hollywood. But they’re not the only ones searching for the ring, and with the growing threat of camp closing forever, they're almost out of time.

Clever Story, Well Written
Revisado: 07-27-22
I really enjoyed this book. The children were realistic and Key does a nice job early on establishing an emotional connection between the reader and the main characters. For a middle grade book there were a lot of layers to the story but they were woven into the narrative without overly complicating things for the reader.
The author/narrator’s performance was perfect.

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

I really enjoyed the story and Lourey’s writing. She did an effective job of bringing the reader into the setting and into mindset of the young narrator.

Historia
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

Stomach twisting horror.

This was the first book I can remember where a scene was so intense and horrifying I took a thirty minute break to steel myself before proceeding. Well done.
