Just fun, with no serious, overarching plot

No stakes until late in the novel

A good listen to while driving or doing chores. No s3x, no real violence. If not for all the swearing it would be a good book to listen to around the kids, but even then it’s only one character who curses and he’s an antagonist. I don’t really like books set in video games but of the many I’ve been cajoled into listening to this is in the top five. I mean it references meet the robinsons AND mars needs moms and that so niche it’s impossible not respect it a little.

The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

I really thought this was going to be like vexed generation or the fowl twins but Joes kids are barely in it. They’re more like furniture than characters so if you’re worried about not liking the next generation of kids don’t worry this is 95% Joe and skippy bickering just like all the other novels. Also we finally got another thuaranin (sp?) name and a civilian bospherok (sp?) so that’s excellent.

Great voice work but the novel was really disjointed. Instead of being a good book on its own it leans too heavily on clone wars and feels like a cheap media tie in.
