Historia
Audible presents an original production of the aptly named The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Charles Dickens’ final, unfinished novel. Following his untimely death at the age of 58, Dickens managed to publish only six of the 12 planned instalments of the story. Though it has gone on to be one of his more popular titles and the source of inspiration for various television, stage and theatre adaptations, no one knows exactly how Dickens planned to end the mystery.

I found this slow at the beginning but stick with it. There are some wonderful twists that are worth the trip. I can see why this is considered a classic of the genre.

I love the way Elizabeth Gaskell writes! She has such a lovely way with description and creates characters that are very human in their flaws, their fragility, and their depth of kindness.

Historia
Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

Becky Sharpe in Trollope-Land
Revisado: 12-17-23
Lizzie Eustace, of the Eustace Diamonds, and Becky Sharpe, of Vanity Fair, make the most delicious anti-heroines. Both take on a world in which their only power is their beauty, wits, and willingness to mold the truth to their benefit.
While it works as a standalone, The Eustace Diamonds is the perfect bridge between Phineas Finn and Phineas Redux. Part mystery, part social commentary, all thoroughly enjoyable!

Is it a gesture of goodwill or a sinister trap that lures Rupert St. Vincent and his family to a magnificent estate? How desperate is Joyce Lambert, a destitute young widow whose only recourse is to marry a man she despises? What unexpected circumstance stirs old loyalties in Theodora Darrell, an unfaithful wife about to run away with her lover?
In this collection of short stories, the answers are as unexpected as they are satisfying. The Queen of Mystery takes bizarre romantic entanglements, supernatural visitations, and classic murder to inventive new heights.

Historia
David Small is the new rabbi in the small Massachusetts town of Barnard’s Crossing. Although he’d rather spend his days engaged in Torah study and theological debate, the daily chores of synagogue life are all-consuming—that is, until the day a nanny’s body is found on the rain-soaked asphalt of the temple’s parking lot.

Excellent Reading
Revisado: 10-21-23
George Guidall always does an outstanding job. He’s one of my favorite readers. I very much enjoyed this first-in-series novel. The author created realistic, believable characters, and spun the mystery along at a pace which held my interest. Plus, I learned a lot about the Jewish faith. Although written in the sixties, the story seems more historic/retro than dated. I will definitely continue with the series. I’m hoping to see the development of Rabbi Small and company through the decades in which the books were published.
