Historia
Twenty-six-year-old editorial assistant Nella Rogers is tired of being the only Black employee at Wagner Books. Fed up with the isolation and microaggressions, she’s thrilled when Harlem-born and bred Hazel starts working in the cubicle beside hers. They’ve only just started comparing natural hair care regimens, though, when a string of uncomfortable events elevates Hazel to Office Darling, and Nella is left in the dust.

First time reading this author
Revisado: 03-07-25
It was ok, maybe not so much stereotypical tropes. I hated the way the narrator portrayed all black girls sounding the same. Not terrible but I needed more depth and complexity.

Historia
Becky Bloomwood has a fabulous flat in London’s trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season’s must-haves. The only trouble is, she can’t actually afford it—not any of it. Her job writing at Successful Saving magazine not only bores her to tears, it doesn’t pay much at all. And lately Becky’s been chased by dismal letters from the bank—letters with large red sums she can’t bear to read. She tries cutting back. But none of her efforts succeeds. Her only consolation is to buy herself something . . . just a little something.

I am usually a “crime and thriller” enthusiast but this author has provided a lighter and well written series that actually holds my attention.

Once again Patricia Gibney delivers! The only disappointing thing about this author is having to wait on the next book! I love Lottie Parker... still after all this time.

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Another New Narrator, This is a fail!
Revisado: 11-12-24
I’ve been a loyal fan of this series for years, and Ralph Cosham’s voice as Chief Inspector Gamache brought an irreplaceable warmth and depth to the character. His passing was heartbreaking, I literallay cried over his death and I have never met the man. I eventually accepted Robert Bathurst as the new voice. He managed to capture the essence of Gamache, maintaining that gentle, wise tone we all came to love.
However, the recent switch to Jean Brassard was jarring and almost unforgivable. His narration style feels completely out of sync with the character I know, altering Gamache’s personality to be more abrasive and unauthentic. It’s disappointing that the author didn’t consider the tone and manner we’re accustomed to, this made it impossible for me to connect with the story.
The last book was a struggle to get through, and this latest installment feels like it may mark the end of my time with the series. The magic that once defined Gamache and Three Pines has faded, and I fear the series has lost its way.
