Sanderson At His Best!!!
Revisado: 12-22-24
This feels like a masterpiece that reminds me whyI fell on love with the Stormlight Archive in the first place. The characters all get great screen time with many seemingly minor characters getting some great stories too. Best of all, it doesn't matter if you love these stories just from the Stormlight Archive angle, or from the Cosmere angle. Everyone gets something out of this, and I absolutely love that fact. Five down, and five more to go!!! (After many years, maybe a decade or two. lol)

Historia
When quiet Orrin and his extroverted best friend, Daniel, were transported to a strange RPG-based world, not much changed between them. Daniel became a hero of legend, while Orrin remained his unobtrusive shadow. Only when they faced a particularly lethal foe did Orrin step out of his comfort zone and display his true worth—with powers he didn't know he had. Of course, Daniel got all the glory, but Orrin doesn't mind. He's just happy they're both still alive.

Good But Frustrating
Revisado: 12-06-24
The fact that I went from hating one of the main characters to loving them is a testament to great storytelling.
That said, the two male leads frustrate me in this second installment. Where before, they balanced each other out to cover their gaps, now I feel like they amplify shared stupidity. Worse, the feeling that one of the boys really holds the other back from full potential is double what it was in book 1.
That doesn't mean that they aren't amazing characters, with amazing interactions. It just means they make me want to face-plant often.
All things considered, it is still one wild ride and if you enjoy seeing paranoid characters like I do then you'll love this sequel. I can't wait for book 3!

Action From The Start, & And That Ending!
Revisado: 12-05-24
This is the kind of fast paced story telling Mixed With fulfilling character development that first drew me to this series. The author certainly has improved writing action over the course of the series. He balances how amazing the main cast are at their jobs against some truly impressive foes perfectly. He also manages to leave us readers with an ending that makes me need to read the final book. I just got said book and can't wait to see how it all ends while hoping he surprises us with sequel series!

Epic Highs & Some Middling Lows!
Revisado: 09-27-24
A stellar vocal performance and many laughs to be had.
So, I admit the first book was better to me. That was a clear cut hero's journey mixed with a sprinkling of red wedding. This felt like something closer to Empire Strikes Back mixed with some of the more pointless deaths of A Song Of Fire And Ice.
Everytime one of the side characters started to get interesting, they ended up going away for various reasons. I do feel the lead character matures which is over all a good thing. But the plot, the main plot is kind of predictable.
The side quests are what offers the greatest high points, really delving into the folklore of this wonderful world the author has created. I mean the best arcs involve things that have nothing to do with the main characters central quest, or involve everything on the high seas. Seriously, managing to make a voyage that epic takes amazing writing talent.
Leaders in this world tend to be stupid, selfishly so. I think the only one I like is a kid. I guess you could say, most people I love from book one, become the those I like the least in book two.
Anyways, this last part feels like a spoiler but I'll add it on because it gives me the most mixed feelings. So probably best to stop reading here if it bothers you, though this isn't confirmed, just interpretation.
Pretty sure that the story is implying time travel. I mean, you get that idea pretty early on and the rest of the book just reinforces this notion. I am pretty sure I can guess how future installments will go at this point because of it. The only question that will cause me to read future installments is the fact that I want to know if this is an infinite time loop or if things can be changed. It is a novel approach for how it is introduced but this is probably the last story that needed this element thrown in. I just hope I'm wrong and this time travel stuff gets executed in a way that leaves me in awe.

One Of The Better Installments
Revisado: 06-09-24
I'm glad to see Lasgol actually being useful again. He was such a useful protagonist in the earyl books, but he became just a pretty face after becoming a Royal Eagle. Now he is back on the thick of it. Add to that the fact the Author remembered a skill I forgot even existed and I'm finally enjoying the series again. Hope the last books keep up this pacing and harvests all the plot point seeds previously planted just as well as this installment did!

A Solid First Installment
Revisado: 04-06-24
The book starts strong, you really get a sense at first that the MC will be uniquely distinct from previous LitRPG MCs. Sadly, about midway in she starts to become as greedily generic as other MCs. The ending tells me what direction she is heading in but hoping she stays fresh and proves me wrong.

Against these foes of the Empire—both old and new—Ling Qi and her allies will be set to test themselves. It is said that conflict is the great whetstone of talent, but war may devour the genius and the common talent alike without differentiation. Good But Stakes Feel Low
Revisado: 11-30-23
The story maintains a good balance of progression, and character growth. Yet, the constant success makes me feel less like she is in danger and more like everyone else is the under dog.So battles, though described poetically in a way few can, are becoming less important as I read on. Performance is amazing though.

This Is Such A Satisfying Installment!
Revisado: 06-28-23

Top it off with major plot advancement and a side of weird Broccoli skill progression and you end up qith quote the fictional treat. The wonderful performance will keep me waiting for the next audio installment! I really am looking forward to se where they go from here!

Far Better Than What I Expected
Revisado: 05-21-23
So, I kind of expected this to be pretty bad, given all the reviews that I read. I was very happy to find out that the story felt like how Star Wars use to feel before being bought. The twists and turns got me wrapped up in the outcome enough to actually care about various plot threads conclusions. Aside from Cal, the other characters felt like they were written close enough to their game counterparts to feel authentic. I admit I don't quite think of Cal as being so naively optimistic as he feels in this book but that might be just a me thing. Finish it off with an acceptable performance and I'm more than satisfied with the credit I spent.

Worth A Listen
Revisado: 01-27-23
So, first I feel I need to start with what I liked the least about this story. It doesn't feel.like anything is really answered. It doesn't really feel like the deep, burning questions that the story raises are satisfactorily answered. This may be because there are more books in the series but at some point.peoppe really just want answers.
With that out of the way, I can say the good things. The reader was amazing, really feels like the kind of performance that sucks a person into the scenes that are being read. So the performance is stellar. I actually enjoyed every POV as it added more pieces to the story. The story was well written in terms of style. It sort of synergies with the performance very well. All in all, it is worth a listen!
