Historia
Clay, a successful screenwriter, has returned from New York to Los Angeles to help cast his new movie, and he’s soon drifting through a long-familiar circle. Blair, his former girlfriend, is married to Trent, an influential manager who’s still a bisexual philanderer, and their Beverly Hills parties attract various levels of fame, fortune and power. Then there’s Clay’s childhood friend Julian, a recovering addict, and their old dealer, Rip, face-lifted beyond recognition and seemingly even more sinister than in his notorious past.

An interesting sequel
Revisado: 04-02-25
I enjoyed Clay’s “darker side” in this sequel to Less Than Zero. I don’t know why the book gets the hate that it does. The plot regarding Rain and all of the men that want her was hilarious and well written. Rip looking like “a horror movie” with all of his plastic surgery was a great commentary and foretelling (written in 2010) of how depraved and vain people are.

Historia
After his daughter, Avery, was born, John gave it all up—hobbies, friends, a dream job—to be something more: a super dad. Since then, he’s spent nearly every waking second with Avery, who’s his absolute best bud. Or, at least, she was. When now eleven-year-old Avery begins transforming into an eye-rolling zombie of a preteen who dreads spending time with him, a desperate John whisks her away for a weeklong father-daughter retreat to get their relationship back on track before she starts middle school.

It's okay
Revisado: 07-22-24
I wanted to like this. As a girl dad I thought this would be right up my alley. However, the author wrote this from the point of view of an extremely insecure and sheltered individual. More research I did on the author confirmed my suspicion. In the book, the other fathers who were bigger than him tried to "crush" his hand with handshakes, food at the camp was inedible because it was...camp food? Has this guy never been to a summer camp as a child? And of course...he even managed to throw in a dig at Chik Fil A being homophobic. (Aren't we tired of this nonsense yet?) The end of the story was predictable, and heartwarming so I guess there is something positive about it. The author is a weak individual who wrote a story about a weak man struggling to connect with his daughter. Along the way, he peppered the story with his own life's insecurities.

Historia
When he opened the FBI investigation into Russia’s election interference, Peter Strzok had already spent more than two decades defending the United States against foreign threats. His career in counterintelligence ended shortly thereafter, when the Trump administration used his private expression of political opinions to force him out of the Bureau in August 2018. But by that time, Strzok had seen more than enough to convince him that the commander in chief had fallen under the sway of America’s adversary in the Kremlin.

just okay
Revisado: 07-21-24
Hard to come away from anything after his admittedly stellar early FBI career with anything but a jaundiced eye. I believe Strzok believes the Russian conspiracy theories he spewed before and after the 2016 election. But you'll notice the media has largely dropped the collusion narrative because it's so impossible to sell. Either way, good for Strzok. He cashed in on the anti-Trump money train.

Excellent
Revisado: 01-25-24
By far this has to be Ellis' Magnum Opus. I was thoroughly entertained and intrigued throughout the entire story. The story left me with many questions and pondering all of the possibilities. Some may want every loose end tied up, but I think it's interesting to discuss the possibilities with other readers and see what they think.

Historia
The transition from President Donald J. Trump to President Joseph R. Biden Jr. stands as one of the most dangerous periods in American history. But as number one internationally best-selling author Bob Woodward and acclaimed reporter Robert Costa reveal for the first time, it was far more than just a domestic political crisis. Woodward and Costa interviewed more than 200 people at the center of the turmoil, resulting in more than 6,000 pages of transcripts - and a spellbinding and definitive portrait of a nation on the brink.

Woodward has become a total hack
Revisado: 01-07-22
It really is sad to see Woodward become a complete and total shill, much like Jonathan Karl. There is no shame with these journalists. The narrator was great, as he was for the previous two in this trilogy.
There really is nothing of substance here. It is the typical bashing of one president and the coddling of another.

Historia
The United States is becoming a nation of rich and poor, with few families in the middle. In this book, MIT economist Peter Temin offers an illuminating way to look at the vanishing middle class. Temin argues that American history and politics, particularly slavery and its aftermath, play an important part in the widening gap between rich and poor. Temin employs a well-known, simple model of a dual economy to examine the dynamics of the rich/poor divide in America.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-12-21
I don't know why I continue going into literature hoping for straightforward writing with just facts. Everyone implements their social and political views into their work and it is off-putting. Temin in a longtime MIT economics professor which is what drew me to purchase this book, but instead of hard facts, his work is littered with slanted opinions.
It would be nice to just have facts for once.
The narrator was enjoyable though.

Great listen, but get the unabridged version
Revisado: 04-18-09
This book is still good as an abridged version, but it leaves out many great pieces. Lots of Fick's OCS journey is left out, as is his Force Reconnaissance training. The audiobook skims over parts of these, mainly his fear of advanced water survival school. Fick is great at narrating his own work though. If you liked Generation Kill, you will like this as well, but it is only the tip of the iceberg.

Historia
One day in 1957, in the third-grade classroom of St. Brigid's parochial school, an exasperated Sister Mary Lurana bent over a restless young William O'Reilly and said, "William, you are a bold, fresh piece of humanity." Little did she know that she was, early in his career as a troublemaker, defining the essence of Bill O'Reilly and providing him with the title of his brash and entertaining issues-based memoir.

Revisado: 12-02-08
I listened to this entire book on a roadtrip from San Antonio to Maryland, and I must say that Bill O'Reilly has earned one more fan. From growing up on Long Island, to studying abroad in Europe, to working on the Factor, O'Reilly has had an incredible life. Do yourself a favor, and listen to this book...then make your kids listen to it when they become teenagers.
