Not Beaton’s character, town and pets barely there
Revisado: 05-05-24
A shell of Hamish filled by a male writer who focuses on spies and flat dialog. Wish I could in-hear it. Skipped a few middle chapters but shouldn’t have kept trying.

Historia
Nobody loves an honest man, or that was what police sergeant Hamish Macbeth tried to tell newcomer Paul English. Paul had moved to a house in Cnothan, a sour village on Hamish's beat. He attended church in Lochdubh. He told the minister, Mr. Wellington, that his sermons were boring. He told tweedy Mrs. Wellington that she was too fat and in these days of increasing obesity it was her duty to show a good example. Angela Brody was told her detective stories were pap for the masses and it was time she wrote literature instead. He accused Hamish of having dyed his fiery red hair.

Historia
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Love it! So humorous.

Read this. Even if you watched the TV series made of it, read this book. The subtleties and little bits of humor add so much to the tale.

Historia
When local fisherman Horace Boller decided to row his boat out on the tidal backwash of the river one morning, he couldn't have meant to land a catch like this. What he ended up with was a body floating on the river's surface. And judging by the state of the corpse, the death was not a recent one. The strange thing is, the coroner report indicates that drowning was not the cause of death. It's up to the intrepid C. D. Sloan - and his markedly less intrepid assistant, Constable Crosby - to investigate.

Historia
Admittedly, there's a touch of black humor in the case. Rich, old practical joker Andrew Trent summons his kin to the remote Arrat House in the dead of winter for a deathbed farewell. They arrive to find him in perfect health and eager to torment them with a new bag of unfunny jokes.

Prankster is certainly out of line!
Revisado: 04-27-22
Interesting characters in this tale, including a prankster so out of line it was shocking. Who plays these kinds of jokes?
Good detail and characters. More fun than some of the previous series "murders."

One woman annoys a town

Hamish Macbeth’s entire community is annoyed by one woman… who ends up dead. Good descriptions and interesting interactions between the local people. A good listen (audiobook) tho the narration sometimes sounded a little odd.

Well described, lots of gore
Revisado: 04-25-22
My sister recommended I read Sigler, and start with this book.
She mentioned it was gory, but I wasn't prepared for the level of gore and body horror.
I really liked how the invading things are described like seeds taking root in soil, except they aren't in soil! The author certainly has a knack for descriptions.
Freaky deaky. Because my sister recommended Sigler, I'll likely read (or listen to) another of his books, but not in this Infected series.
I listened to the audiobook.

Good book and quite scary
Revisado: 04-25-22
Good, scary tale with freaky characters.
Since I'd seen the movie and the miniseries before reading the book, there were some times when I was thrown by differences from this, the original book.
Note that I listened to the audiobook.
