Very heteronormative. The discussion on eliminating child support was very cringe & critical of “materialistic” women without really considering the context of a patriarchy that limits economic opportunity for them. The modern afterword at the end was more nuanced.

There were some great lessons and the overall message is important but the writing & author’s voice is very inauthentic & lacked nuance. Very white. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot.

We are all weird about money. Whether you have a lot or a little, your feelings and beliefs about money have been shaped by a combination of silence (or even shame) around talking about money, personal experiences, family and societal expectations, and a whole big complex system rigged against many of us from the start. Begin with that baseline premise and it’s no surprise so many of us find it so difficult to save enough money, emotionally draining to deal with student loans, and nearly impossible to understand the esoteric world of investing.

I wish I had had this book when making the decision to pursue higher education, when I started my career, when I started my business….but, it’s better late than never to have such a thorough and helpful introduction. I didn’t grow up knowing about finance or wealth. I related to the author and appreciated the approach; especially in a system not built for me.
