Interesting additions of characters and storylines that could lead to more stories in the future
Revisado: 01-16-25
The production of the characters' voices is a little uneven in volume, but despite the minor unevenness I enjoyed the story and was delighted by the end. Great fun and a good addition to the Jane Yellowrock canon.

Historia
Where the Marble Arch stands today in London was once the Tyburn gallows - also known as The Hanging Tree. The walk toward those gallows along Oxford Street and past the Mayfair mansions has a bloody and haunted history as the last trip of the condemned. Some things never change. For both blood and ghosts have returned to those mansions of the super-rich. And it's up to Peter Grant - England's last wizard and the Metropolitan Police's reluctant investigator of all things supernatural - to get to the bottom of the sinister doings.

Unusual, smart, well written, fun

I'm a big fan of the Rivers of London series. No matter how many times I read or listen, I always pick up a subtlety that I didn't catch the first 100 times. Highly recommend.

Dreaming the Bull continues the story of Breaca - now hailed Boudica, the Bringer of Victory, and her half brother, Bán, now an Officer in the Roman auxiliary cavalry. Each stands on the opposing side in a brutal war of attrition between the occupying army and the defeated tribes; each is determined to see the other dead. Caught between them are two children, son and daughter to two of the greatest warriors their world has ever seen, while in distant Rome, the Emperor Claudius holds the balance of lives in their hands.

Slows a bit during the military history sections, but worth it
Revisado: 10-02-23
Not as engaging as the first book about Boudica, but good. I appreciate that the history is accurate, and made interesting by the storytelling

Historia
In Wisdom, Shelter. That’s the official motto of the Scholomance. I suppose you could even argue that it’s true—only the wisdom is hard to come by, so the shelter’s scant. Our beloved school does its best to devour all its students—but now that I’ve reached my senior year and have actually won myself a handful of allies, it’s suddenly developed a particular craving for me. Even if I somehow make it through the endless waves of maleficaria that it keeps throwing at me, I haven’t any idea how my allies and I are going to make it through the graduation hall alive.

First one was better
Revisado: 07-23-23
I enjoyed following through with the characters from the first book, but the story was more of a sequel than a standalone.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Great fun. Irreverent, unapologetically dramatic

Another reviewer: "brilliantly original and messy," Delightful dark twists, gore, humor, discoveries around sloppy corners. I bought a paper copy and will listen again, too.

It would be better without the romance
Revisado: 04-04-18
The story is good, the premises intriguing. I hope that future books, if I try them, have less specious romance and stick with the obviously capable author’s storytelling skills.

Good but too long
Revisado: 01-26-17
Good story. Dragged out too long on too much geek detail. A good editor could have helped this story be more dynamic. Well read.
