Cute but a little clunky
Revisado: 11-18-23
Cute story but it didn’t totally flow. One other thing kept irritating me a bit as well. The author kept calling blue jeans “denims”. Just a weird little quirk that bothered me throughout the story.

Historia
A twister, a kidnapping, and a murder - oh my! Scumble River may never be the same. For school psychologist Skye Denison, there's certainly no place like home. When a violent tornado devastates her small hometown of Scumble River, she can't see how the community will ever recover - especially since town councilman Zeke Lyons appears to have perished in the twister. But things get even worse for Skye when her police chief husband, Wally, disappears in the midst of investigating Zeke's death, and evidence arises pointing to foul play.

Story was decent; narration not so much
Revisado: 01-19-21
The story was ok. (spoiler!!!) But you can’t tell me that when your kidnapped son asks you to deliver a message to his pregnant wife that you just “forget” to tell her half of it. Especially the half that would lead to his location. Also the narrator was super stiff and it sounded like English wasn’t her first language. The over pronunciation of words was rough to listen to.

Wow
Revisado: 01-12-21
Spoilers!!!
The first one was cute, if a little slow. This one is just obnoxious. The main character does 5% of the sleuthing and the murderer just falls into her lap. The one time she actively does something, she gets hit hard over the head twice, enough to make her throw up, but she drives home, goes into work, and then drinks wine later that night. Her father also had injuries and she’s much more careful and sensible with him than about herself. It makes no sense. There’s no compelling or even believable reason given for any of her actions. Please don’t get me started on how she treats her boyfriend. And the relationship with her father! Entirely unbelievable. It’s like entire chunks of inner monologue that make what the protagonist does make sense are completely missing. She just does things for no reason. Like a Sims character. This story grated on my nerves the entire time. Don’t waste your time.

Historia
Dr. Frank Hafner is an archaeologist working on excavating a new-found Native American temple site in the Mississippi Delta. He's also too handsome for his own good, and a bit of a flirt. Oddly enough, it's the first quality that gets him in trouble when he discovers the ritualistic murder of one of his archaeological crew. When Coleman Peters, Sheriff and Sarah Booth's boyfriend, takes Dr. Hafner in for questioning in the murder, the accused doctor hires Sarah Booth to clear his name.

Narrator
Revisado: 07-18-19
Loved the story. Carolyn Haines is one of my favorite authors! The narrator did a great job but her voice is a little old for Sarah Booth and various other characters. They’re supposed to be in their mid-30’s and the narrator is clearly older than that. Also, as a native Mississippian, the word “Biloxi” is said bih-lux-ee, not the way the narrator pronounced it.

Dislike the narration, wonderful addition to series
Revisado: 11-23-18
Really, really love this series but the narrator just didn’t quite fit for a 30 something woman from MS, in my opinion (as a 30 year old woman from MS). Can’t wait to find out if Tinkie is pregnant in the next book!

Hannah Swenson is my new favorite!
Revisado: 05-23-18
Loved the book so much more than the Hallmark movies based on the book (of course!). Had to get used to the narrator's voice though. A bit unctuous to my ears. "Cookie" sounds like "kooky" every time she says the word and with the main characters business being a cookie shop called "The Cookie Jar" it gets said quite a bit. Grated on my nerves at first but after I got used to it, not terrible. That being said, I really loved the story and can't wait for the next one!
