Historia
In the wake of their terrifying escape from Fairhaven Hall, sisters Jess and Hannah Ballard find themselves on the run, pursued by the two most powerful groups in the history of the spirit world. On one side, the Durupinen, determined to capture the girls and prevent their role in an ancient prophecy that promises to destroy them and unleash the spirit hordes on the earth. On the other side, the Necromancers, ancient enemies of the Durupinen, hell-bent on bringing the same prophecy to fruition. When the girls are betrayed and one of them falls into the Necromancers’ hands, both face decisions with cataclysmic consequences.

Rewarding and creative paranormal adventure
Revisado: 05-18-23
Beautifully written fantasy with richly developed characters and scenarios. I was surprised at the depth of the characters and the emotions I felt. The descriptions created a world I could personally experience and I came to care deeply about the characters. I will definitely seek out more books by this author. The audio added a lot to my experience.

Historia
Two sisters, haunted by more than their past... Just weeks after discovering each other’s existence, Jess and Hannah Ballard arrive at Fairhaven Hall, where they will learn the clandestine ways of the Durupinen, an ancient sect of women who control the Gateways between the worlds of the living and the dead. Though they are considered outcasts by most of their classmates, Jess and Hannah are determined to learn what they can to fulfill their responsibility to the many ghosts that haunt them. But danger, it seems, has followed them as closely as a shadow to their new home.

Historia
Some cryptic words wake college student Jess Ballard from a terrifying dream into an even more terrifying reality. Jess’ life has never been what anyone would call easy; doing damage control in the wake of your nomadic, alcoholic mother doesn't exactly make for a storybook childhood. But now, her world has fallen apart just when it should be coming together: her mother gone—dead under mysterious circumstances; her life uprooted to stay with estranged relatives she’s never met; and there’s something odd about some of the people she’s been meeting at school: They’re dead.

Intriguing first book in a paranormal series

Creative plot, interesting characters and a storyline that held my attention. I found myself wanting to read the rest of the series before I had finished it. The characters drew me in and I cared about them.

I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job in my office, after being hired by my mother. So, maybe, her colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe, I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe, my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.

Favorite in the series
Revisado: 05-07-21
This book provided a deeper understanding of character flaws that resonated with me in my own life. I empathized with the characters and closely identified with Maggy, her work ethic, and the heartbreak of family members and lovers who are using and unsupportive. The story is hopeful and forgiving.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

A rugged life in tough times
Revisado: 02-10-21
This is one of the best books I have ever read. The voice actors did an outstanding job representing the personalities and emotions of the characters. Kya shows courage, intelligence and tenacity under extremely difficult circumstances. The story weaves in common problems such as alcoholism, domestic violence, prejudice and hardships and challenges of life. The characters demonstrate how love, compassion, family and grit get them through times and situations that may seem untenable to many of us. We see them making mistakes along the way, and sometimes having to make difficult life and death decisions. Sometimes reality may seem stretched, yet it doesn't detract from the story and even gives it a sense of the fiction it is. I will read and listen to this book again.

Historia
All those years of adolescent fantasies and this was how Bowie Bodine first touched my boobs. And he apologized. Real life was stupid and unfair. Small town deputy Cassidy Tucker’s dating life is a train wreck on repeat. All she ever wanted was a solid partner. A man to share pajamas with. Cassidy’s officially giving up on love and adopting cats. Good thing the cold case disappearance of Callie Kendall is heating up to keep her distracted. Except the investigation is testing her friendship with all the Bodines - Bowie in particular.

Believable characters in situations that seem real
Revisado: 02-10-21
I loved this book. The characters seem so real and the situations presented make them seem like family and friends. The series is a personal favorite, since my own background and life share many similarities. Two professionals who have matured and are ready to take the next step in life find themselves in very human situations with a history and emotions that create a backdrop that weaves in with the series as a whole. Very satisfying read. The voice actors are great, and seemed very real. My nerdy husband has been reading my books, and he really enjoys them! I had to switch to audio due to eye surgeries, and am loving listening to the emotion, drama and comedy that the human voices add.
