Historia
In Brian Paone's first novel, he chronicles the trials and tribulations of befriending a modern-day rock star. As a die-hard fan of the rock band God Lives Underwater, Brian wins the trust of lead singer David Reilly. This honor comes with its own set of extreme personal highs and devastating shared lows. During their tumultuous friendship, David fights an extreme battle with drug abuse and depression. Pile on top of all this the throes of a cutthroat music industry and the realization of one's own mortality.

Excellent

I'm a big GLU fan. The surprising thing that I actually loved about this book is that the story stands out on its own as an ode to friendship. Of course, the details about the author and David shine through in the raw, honest writing. Very grateful for this excellent account, and glad to know more about David the person VS David the GLU artist (although of course David's work in and beyond GLU are excellent). Hope the author knows how his hard work really paid off in one of the best tributes I can imagine for David. Thank you!

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Enjoy it
Revisado: 03-15-21
Similar to many other readers/listeners, I was a big fan of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but this is quite a different story. Unlike others, I was sucked into the story quickly (I did not find it slow at all) and enjoyed the story and detail quite a bit.
I recommend it to those who enjoy thoughtful literature, and those looking for something different....and an excellent performance by Chiwetel Ejiofor brings it to life as an audiobook.

Historia
Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis. In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low-grade - but escalating - battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice.

Great stuff

I thought both stories in Elevation were awesome, and I think both stories will be worth your time. I almost didn't download this audiobook at all because I saw so many negative reviews. As such, I can only guess that certain readers wanted a specific type of "Stephen King" scary story. To me, Stephen King has always crossed genres as necessary for the sake of a good story. I'd also venture out to say that the underlying themes and ideas behind Elevation are compelling, and King's confrontations with death through these stories are quite fascinating and refreshing. No, it's not a story similar to Pet Semetary in the horror sense, but the quality of the storytelling is just as good if not better. If you want to listen to a good story that leaves you thinking about it long after the book is done, you should download and enjoy. If you only want a specific brand of Stephen King story and horror (assuming it exists), then maybe not.
