great narrator, fun writing style
Revisado: 09-10-19
this is the most I have liked a book in a while. it reminds me of watching Star Trek TNG episodes. very engaging narrative style, fun to continually meet new characters. and the stories divided over time and space are really fun and not confusing like I thought it might be. really fun for anyone who grew up with sci-fi stories.

A moving love story displaying all of Austen's signature wit and ironic narrative style. Persuasion is Jane Austen's last completed novel. She began it soon after she had finished Emma, completing it in August 1816.

great story, not so great reader
Revisado: 09-29-18
I love Austen and Ann Elliot is my favorite heroine... and only that kept me listening to the whole book. The narrator didn't have a British accent and apparently thought she could make up for it with a truly bizarre clipped affectation of speech. Some of her pronounciations were just flat out wrong and painful to the ears. Her acting wasn't great either, like she hasn't read the material before to think out emphasis. really, really disappointed.

Historia
The best-selling memoir by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. I Am Malala. This is my story. Malala Yousafzai was only 10 years old when the Taliban took control of her region. They said music was a crime. They said women weren't allowed to go to the market. They said girls couldn't go to school. Raised in a once-peaceful area of Pakistan transformed by terrorism, Malala was taught to stand up for what she believes. So she fought for her right to be educated.

what an amazing story, this is this generations Night or Farewell to Manzanar or Diary of Anne Frank even. It really helps you understand what they are going through and is also an amazing example of courage and character for kids to stand up for what is right and what they are passionate about. It also shows an wonderful example of what a family can be for each other, for their community and for the world.

Historia
An editor and writer's vivaciously entertaining, and often moving, memoir — a true story that reminds us why we should all make time in our lives for books.Nearing his fortieth birthday, author and critic Andy Miller realized he's not nearly as well read as he'd like to be. A devout book lover who somehow fell out of the habit of reading, he began to ponder the power of books to change an individual life—including his own—and to define the sort of person he would like to be.

starts very slow but worth sticking with it
Revisado: 12-02-16
the beginning was slow and painful for the first chapter as he (ironically) describes the minutiae of his daily schedule and diet. Now having finished the book I understand the intended humor and purpose of this. But starting off with it before we know the writing style, humor or references he is alluding to, I barely made it through and was mostly thinking to myself "Is this entire book an in depth description of everything he's ever eaten?". Luckily I persevered and was very well rewarded. this book is thoroughly engaging, hilarious, thought provoking and optimistically cynical (yes is possible, read it and you'll see). Despite the fact that I haven't read most of his list, hate Melville and love Austen, I really loved this book. As he warns, it's not a review of these books, it's about the act of reading. He perfectly accomplished the duality he was going for. Plus, anyone who can summarize and conclude his book/journey with what is basically a chapter-long love letter to Douglas Adams. . .
