Historia
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

Not a great narration
Revisado: 05-24-16
I'm afraid I have to second other reviewers' opinion that the narrator isn't great. There is something about his tone that make the lines sound a bit over-acted, which in turn makes Krakauer come off as a bit insensitive or disrespecful, which I doubt he is. The narration of e.g. Into the Wild and Into Thin Air is better, even though you can tell the rrfordinfs were done many years ago.
I liked and enjoyed the book, but I bet I could have enjoyed it more. Solid piece of narrative journalism nonetheless.

Historia
Objective Troy tells the gripping and unsettling story of Anwar al-Awlaki, the once-celebrated American imam who called for moderation after 9/11, a man who ultimately directed his outsized talents to the mass murder of his fellow citizens. It follows Barack Obama's campaign against the excesses of the Bush counterterrorism programs and his eventual embrace of the targeted killing of suspected militants. And it recounts how the president directed the spy agencies to hunt Awlaki down.

Best foreign policy nonfiction book in years
Revisado: 05-14-16
Scott Shane's book on Awlaki and Obama is one of the best books on foreign policy in recent years, and certainly one with one of the best narratives. I was happy to see discover that this book was narrated by Fred Sanders, who did an amazing job on Ashlee Vance's Elon Musk biography. This reading is just as good.

Historia
From the moment John Roberts, the chief justice of the United States, blundered through the Oath of Office at Barack Obama's inauguration, the relationship between the Supreme Court and the White House has been confrontational. Both men are young, brilliant, charismatic, charming, determined to change the course of the nation - and completely at odds on almost every major constitutional issue. One is radical; one essentially conservative. The surprise is that Obama is the conservative.

Recommended reading during the Supreme Court vacancy
Revisado: 03-06-16
Toobin's dislike of the now late Antonin Scalia is clear (and perhaps understandable, especially given the authors own legal background), but the book gives you a thorough look into both the liberal and conservative chambers of the court. Toobin does an admirable job of translating legalese. Robertson Dean's narration is as always great (listen to The Forever War by Dexter Filkins when you start missing his voice).
Highly recommended, especially during the current Supreme Court vacancy.
