I enjoy books by these two authors this one just seemed a little heavy at commenting on appearances. A lot of these stories were taken from there are other books as well. It was good to revisit some of them. I would not recommend making this your first introduction to these authors, but I loved the subject!

Authors John Doe and Tom DeSavia have woven together an enthralling story of the legendary West Coast scene from 1977 to 1982 by enlisting the voices of people who were there. The book shares chapter-length tales from the authors along with personal essays from famous (and infamous) players in the scene.

Holy Shit that's Punk! Buy the hardcopy too.
Revisado: 02-09-22
Documenting the LA punk scene this way would make all of those they lost throw a beer bottle in victory!! Everyone involved read their own part, it added so much more emphasis, you could tell their favorite part of every story. I highly recommend buying the hard copy too, so many pictures of when they were just wee punk-in babies!

Historia
Gumshoe Conrad Metcalf has problems - not the least of which are the rabbit in his waiting room and the trigger-happy kangaroo on his tail. Near-future Oakland is an ominous place where evolved animals function as members of society, the police monitor citizens by their karma levels, and mind-numbing drugs such as Forgettol and Acceptol are all the rage. In this brave new world, Metcalf has been shadowing the wife of an affluent doctor, perhaps falling a little in love with her at the same time.

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.

Revisado: 03-10-20
The reading doesn't follow along exactly because the book itself has been translated. My goodness this is a definite must read for anyone looking to lose weight, be healthy or just know more about what's going on inside of us!!!
The author is funny, polite (given the subject matter) and well researched!?

Historia
1916: Norma Wallace, age 15, arrived in New Orleans. Sexy and shrewd, she quickly went from streetwalker to madam and by 1920 had opened what became a legendary house of prostitution. There she entertained a steady stream of governors, gangsters, and movie stars until she was arrested at last in 1962. Shortly before she died in 1974, she tape-recorded her memories. With those tapes and original research, Christine Wiltz chronicles Norma's rise and fall with the social history of New Orleans.

Such a great story!
Revisado: 01-14-20
This is a wonderful biography of Norma Wallace!! It seems very well researched and layed out like a good novel, but the narrator kept trying to talk like her in her New Orleans accents and I just don't like when people do accents.
