Historia
The Psychopath Test is a fascinating journey through the minds of madness. Jon Ronson's exploration of a potential hoax being played on the world's top neurologists takes him, unexpectedly, into the heart of the madness industry. An influential psychologist who is convinced that many important CEOs and politicians are, in fact, psychopaths teaches Ronson how to spot these high-flying individuals by looking out for little telltale verbal and nonverbal clues.

Equally disturbing and hilarious, Jon Ronson does a fantastic job narrating his own work, revealing a level of irony that may have been lost with his own voice work.

Historia
The U.S.-backed military invasion of Cuba in 1961 remains one of the most ill-fated blunders in American history, with echoes of the event reverberating even today. Despite the Kennedy administration’s initial public insistence that the United States had nothing to do with the invasion, it soon became clear that the complex operation had been planned and approved by the best and brightest minds at the highest reaches of Washington, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff and President John F. Kennedy himself.

US Government Perspective
Revisado: 05-25-11
This story is told almost exclusively from the perspective of high level members of the US government. There is little input from Cuban exiles or anyone who fought on the side of the Cuban government. It is not badly written but does feel very limited in its scope.

Historia
This is the remarkable story of the English language; from its beginnings as a minor guttural Germanic dialect to its position today as a truly established global language. The Adventure of English is not only an enthralling story of power, religion, and trade, but also the story of people, and how their lives continue to change the extraordinary language that is English.

Highly Informative
Revisado: 02-28-11
Very interesting. I thought I had a good understanding of the origin of English but I was clearly wrong. This work is aimed at a UK audience and the author's use of the collective "we" to mean the English people can be a little disconcerting at times for an American audience. Still I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Historia
The Western Front dominates our memories of the First World War. Yet a million and half men died in northeast Italy in a war that need never have happened, when Italy declared war on the Habsburg Empire in May 1915. Led by General Luigi Cadorna, the most ruthless of all the Great War commanders, waves of Italian conscripts were sent charging up the limestone hills north of Trieste to be massacred by troops fighting to save their homelands.

Great story - Ok narration
Revisado: 02-28-11
I knew very little of the Italian front in WWI other than what I had read in A Farewell to Arms. This exhaustive account provides a great mix of strategic and tactical detail. My only complaint is that the narration is wanting in spots. Some sections had some technical issues with whistling from the microphone and the volume was not always consistent.

Historia
This modern classic of military history has been called "one of the most important personal accounts of war that I have ever read" by distinguished historian John Keegan. Author E.B. Sledge served with the First Marine Division during World War II, and his first-hand narrative is unsurpassed in its sincerity. Sledge’s experience shows in this fascinating account of two of the most harrowing and pivotal island battles of the Pacific theater.

Fantastic Detail
Revisado: 02-28-11
Few war memoirs contain such rich and honest detail. You have to credit Sledge for having the courage to fully document his experience. I can't recommend this book enough. The narration is acceptable, but chances are you won't even notice it as the story being told is so involving.

Historia
It was a war without mercy, fought back and forth along 90 miles of river crossings, steep inclines and precipitous descents, with both sides wracked by hunger and disease, and terrified of falling into enemy hands. Defeat was unthinkable: the Australian soldier was fighting for his homeland against an unyielding aggressor; the Japanese ordered to fight to the death in a bid to conquer ‘Greater East Asia’.

Give it some time
Revisado: 02-28-11
At first, I found Kokoda a little awkward. The book opens with events out of chronological sequence and the narrator approximates a Japanese accent when reading quotes from Japanese sources. However, you soon begin to appreciate the author's willingness to use both Western and Australian sources and tell both sides of the story. The reading also grows on you as the work progresses and th narrator really does make excellent use of different Australian accents. The end result is an engrossing vocal performance and excellent well researched story.
