Historia
In 2014, James Hamblin launched a series of videos for The Atlantic called "If Our Bodies Could Talk". With it, the doctor-turned-journalist established himself as a seriously entertaining authority in the field of health. Now, in illuminating and genuinely funny prose, Hamblin explores the human stories behind health questions that never seem to go away - and which tend to be mischaracterized and oversimplified by marketing and news media. He covers topics such as sleep, aging, diet, and much more.

Very little fun, a whole lot of activism
Revisado: 06-05-24
I was hoping for lots of fun and interesting health facts, but the book ended up being nearly all social and political activism. It made me question the accuracy or validity of anything he said. Disappointing and I wish I had stopped and requested a refund early on.

Historia
Tim and his friends find out the hard way that you shouldn't question the game master, and you shouldn't make fun of his cape. One minute, they're drinking away the dreariness of their lives, escaping into a fantasy game and laughing their asses off. The next minute, they're in a horse-drawn cart surrounded by soldiers pointing crossbows at them.

Critical failures; certainly an appropriate title
Revisado: 06-19-19
This is a rinse and repeat of countless other stories of being sucked into a game world, but it had quite a lot of potential. However, the EXTREME use of the F-bomb and every other foul word you can think of nearly every other sentence is so over the top distracting and unnecessary that I couldn't finish the book. 1000 hit points to my IQ and sensibilities. This book would have a room full of sailors stating "Hey, watch the language." I'm no prude and have listened to plenty of books packed with foul language, but the difference is that other authors tastefully and appropriately weave it into the story. These characters literally can't make it from one sentence to the next without spewing a torrent of foul language with reckless abandon.
On the positive side, the reader impressively handled the multiple characters and did a top notch job. The characters were interesting and the world had potential for growth.

Whether navigating the backroads of Louisiana or Thuringia, exploring the snowy Quebec woods, or performing onstage at Rush concerts, Neil Peart has stories to tell. His first volume in this series, Far and Away, combined words and images to form an intimate, insightful narrative that won many fans. Now Far and Near brings together reflections from another three years of an artist's life.

Entertaining but need pictures!
Revisado: 08-31-17
As expensive as audiobooks are you would think that you would get a companion eBook with pictures for free. The entire book refers to photographs which you can't see if you do not pay $13.00 for the companion book. If it wasn't for how enjoyable the narrator was I'd just get the print version.

Eighteen months after the Collapse of 2027, the former United States is divided. On one side is the evil and tyrannical Unified American Empire, controlled by President Simon Sterling, the man responsible for the death of the last legitimate president, Malcolm Powers. On the other side, President Howard Beck controls the Pacific States of America, the last hope for democracy and freedom. The two adversaries become embroiled in a bitter game of deception, betrayal, and espionage.

Very enjoyable story, but horrible reader
Revisado: 03-25-14
I have listened to a LOT of audio books, and while there have been readers that I felt could have done better for the story I've never listened to one where the reader ruined the book.. Until now. Even though this is a great story, the reader was so bad that I almost gave up on it. When doing narrative he is passable, but when doing a character, especially a female character, it was just like listening to a 8 year doing a school play, literally. It was as if he was just trying to be silly on purpose with his lilting falsetto cadence. I cannot believe that a production company sat for that many hours and recorded him and thought it was all good. Maybe the author had no say-so in the matter but if someone butchered my story that bad I would never allow to be distributed. I may go back and read the print versions of these later, both books in the series really were quite clever but I'll be sure to nix any book I ever see again with this reader.

More of the same but goes nowhere, abrupt ending
Revisado: 11-25-13
I've been a big fan of this series and with the big wrap-up from the last book I figured this book would just tie up all the loose ends and happily ever after, rides of into the sunset, etc. but we find that there is more to be sorted out. That's good by me but this should have been the last book, everything could have and should have been done here. Give us a good 18 hour book and done. These are short books and I'm beginning to feel used by the author who I hope isn't just milking the $$$ slowly. I gave him a pass on the short 4.5 which still cost a full credit but let's get on with it. If this doesn't wrap up with the next book, or it turns out to be another short one then you've lost me. Let's have a BIG finish.

Historia
This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book one of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Other reviewers have said his sense of humor was a negative but I found it gave the story a lot of life. I really had a hard time with the reader though, it took a long time for me to get used to his voice and his performance did pickup (or maybe I just got used to it) as the story went on. I would not miss this book though because of the reader, it's definitely worth the credit. I enjoyed it at least as much as Day By Day Armageddon.

Near perfection, as if Tolkien was reading it!
Revisado: 01-07-13
What made the experience of listening to The Hobbit the most enjoyable?
Quality of narration
Who was your favorite character and why?
The hobbit, of course
What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?
Masterful interpretation of the characters personalities. He absolutely understood them.
Any additional comments?
Unlike Peter Jackson's recent movie disaster, this narrator "gets it" It is about a hobbit and his journey physically and spiritually. This reading totally captures the essence of the characters.
