Just say NO!
Revisado: 02-12-25
I have really enjoyed these books up until this one. The storyline read more like dumb and dumber. At what point in the case do you just say No?
I also missed the antics of Jitty in this one. The books aren’t the same without her ghostly humor. Her character is what has intrigued me to listen to these audiobooks. Without Jitty, the storyline goes downhill, in my opinion

Historia
Though American by birth, Frances Wynn, the now-widowed Countess of Harleigh, has adapted admirably to the quirks and traditions of the British aristocracy. On August 12th, each year, otherwise known as the Glorious Twelfth, most members of the upper class retire to their country estates for grouse-shooting season. Frances has little interest in hunting - or birds or a second husband - and is expecting to spend a quiet few months in London with her almost-engaged sister, Lily, until the throng returns.

Could be so good….
Revisado: 01-03-25
I think these books would be so good if not for the monotonous tone of the narrator. It’s almost like Beuller … Beuller … it’s so hard to listen to and keep your train of thoughts on the story. Probably a great choice if you’re suffering from insomnia - it’ll put you right to sleep.

Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Fun story
Revisado: 12-27-24
This could have been so much better had it been narrated by someone who didn’t end each sentence as a question and who sounded as she was somewhat out of breath whilst narrating. If you can get past the narration, it’s worth the listen.

Historia
I’m here, standing in front of my one-night stand’s house, working up the courage to ring the doorbell and tell him I’m pregnant. I hate that term—one-night stand. It sounds so cheap and sleazy. Tobias Holiday is neither of those things. He’s handsome and caring. Witty and charismatic. And once, a long time ago, he was mine. Our one-night reunion was only supposed to be a hookup. A fling with an old lover. A parting farewell before I moved to London and put my feelings for him an ocean away. How exactly am I supposed to explain that to Tobias that I’m having his baby?

Would have been much better without the graphic sex scenes. So many authors can write these scenes very tastefully, this author isn’t one of them.

Great beginning, captured my attention from the start. Kept a good plot throughout most of the book. A little sappy in places, but loved the fact that it wasn’t full of over-the-top love scenes and had clean language throughout.

Captivating story
Revisado: 08-02-24
Great book made even better by an amazing narrator. Only thing missing in the story is the judge coming west to see how successful Katherine had become with his banishment. I would have loved reading how Methias sent the judge packing back east with his tail between his legs. Otherwise, excellent story.
