Historia
In celebration of the week-long, once-in-a-decade rite of Apert, the fras and suurs prepare to venture outside the concent's gates - opening them wide at the same time to welcome the curious "extras" in. During his first Apert as a fra, Erasmus eagerly anticipates reconnecting with the landmarks and family he hasn't seen since he was "collected". But before the week is out, both the existence he abandoned and the one he embraced will stand poised on the perilous brink of cataclysmic change.

Great - but not Stephenson's best
Revisado: 08-05-20
This is a fantastic journey in a well developed world with full characters. I enjoyed it and would fully recommend it.
But, it took a really long time to get going, in the audiobook, about 4.5 hours. The early chapters are important to the story and the world, but they are tedious and a bit forgettable. This crops up a few times throughout the book, but is very dry early on.
Once the story gets going it is a fun ride and I was invested in several of the characters. Recommended!

Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Completely Lacking
Revisado: 11-29-19
I couldn't put down the road; this was not the road. I found Blood Meridian difficult to get through, lacking and plot, lacking in character development, just overall not very good.
It tended to drone on and on. It used gimmicky literary elements to mask its complete and utter lack of plot and story. I made it through to the end, but the last chapter might have been the most difficult to get through. There was no satisfying ending to the book, not even a cliffhanger, just bad. An almost superhuman like character with no faults, ended the book with no faults.
I very much like McCarthy's work, this was not his best...

What's that you say? You want more village growth? Well be careful where you stand, because the Mist Village just took a Viagra-Cialis sandwich, and there is a stiff breeze blowing! (I can make some more references if you're still not getting the point...did you see what I did there?)

A Bit Short and Juvenile
Revisado: 10-20-19
Way to many "that's what she said", and "it's so big" references. Seriously juvenile, maybe a 6th or 7th grade humor level. Might be the worse in the serious thus far in that regard.
Also, a very short book and a rather misleading title. So short in fact that they characters never even reach the title desitination. Like many other books in this series, much of the text is devoted to leveling and item description instead of character development or plot. RPGs are long and involved games, this wasn't barely a side quest, much less a major quest. Hopefully the next book in the series will be more involved.
While I am enjoying the series overall, this is definitely one of the weaker series in the genre and one of the shortest and least satisfying in the series.

Historia
Drew Michalik was working in a top-secret facility in Washington, DC, when the Advent began. As all electronics in the world simply ceased to work, blue screens filled with information appeared before him. Drew was given access to a mana interface and a limited number of reality-altering crystals called Xatherite. Following the instructions on his vision-impairing screens, he "slotted" his Xatherite and changed his fate: He gained the ability to cast spells. Now alone in the dark, he must battle through the government bunker turned dungeon in a desperate bid for survival.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.
