Historia
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Pricilla’s one sided story
Revisado: 05-14-24
If you believe Priscilla, she is the only one who was really looking out for Elvis’ best interest. In fact, she used him for her personal benefit just like everyone else did. She admitted cheating on his multiple times, yet her love was true? Give me a break. How did she pay for the personal dance and karate lessons? With her own money? It was Elvis’ money. Elvis was the meal ticket for all the crowd who mooched off of him, and ultimately squeezed the life out of him. It’s clear Elvis felt responsible for everyone around him. They were all, in some ways, responsible for his early and sad demise. Additionally, her constant and annoying laughter shows she still hasn’t matured. She still acts like the spoiled child she was at 14, when she kicked and screamed and finally got her way to spend time with Elvis. Sad story, written by an even sadder human

Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

This Was My Story, and the Story of Many Others
Revisado: 10-15-23
I had great difficulty getting through this book, because it was my story. Anyone who grew up in a fundamentalist, apocalyptic, religious family, live this life. The abusive father who threw scripture in your face to justify his abuse, the abused mother who defended the father at the expense of the children, and the siblings, torn apart by the destruction of it all. My father, for all his religiosity, could never apologize for the chaos and damage he caused. He was too proud. God had forgiven him, and so should we. 10 years after my father has passed, my mother, to this days, still defends his physical and emotional abuse. “He love you kids”. She still says, even though he couldn’t muster the words. We all bear the scars of his physical beatings and pious, almost pharisaical attitude. Worse of all, we had to hide the reality of what was happening behind the closed doors of our “perfect” Christian family, to this day, most who thought they knew our family would never believe what was really happening. We all played the game of the perfect little Christian family at church, while hell broke out the moment we got home and the door was shut. I am now 66 years old, and still bear the scars, but have learned to accept and move on. During my own counseling, I realized my anger was not as much towards my father, but my mother, for defending him, and not protecting her own children. She is now 87, and remembers nothing that happened. In fact, in her mind, it didn’t happen. As his cold body lays decaying in the grave, still defending him.

Falwell’s Exposed for the Pond Scum They Are
Revisado: 06-05-23
What scumbags the Falwell’s are. That they were praised and worshipped almost like gods, shows the depth of the cultish culture they created. But worse, are the millions who believed their crap, and followed like blind sheep, seduced by their charisma and power.

The Ultimate Pharisee
Revisado: 12-31-22
As a life long Hoosier myself, I really didn't learn anything about Mike Pence I didn't already know. He was a terrible Governor, and is the ultimate pharisee and hypocrite. Just listening to Pence speak, you realize what a fake and phony he is. Pence sets himself up as the authority on everything moral, while inside, he is empty and hollow. There is not a shred of care, compassion or empathy in his being. The irony is, for all his loyalty to Trump, he will never be the Republican nominee for President. His political life is over, as it should be.

Historia
Beloved and hated, venerated and reviled, Andrew Jackson was an orphan who fought his way to the pinnacle of power, bending the nation to his will in the cause of democracy. Jackson's election in 1828 ushered in a new and lasting era in which the people, not distant elites, were the guiding force in American politics. Democracy made its stand in the Jackson years, and he gave voice to the hopes and the fears of a restless, changing nation facing challenging times at home and threats abroad.
