In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

This was such an interesting listen. I learned so much -from Mary's perspective of course- that makes it easier to understand our president & his lineage. I recommend this to both supporters & non-supporters.

Historia
Today's feminist movement has a glaring blind spot, and paradoxically, it is women. Mainstream feminists rarely talk about meeting basic needs as a feminist issue, argues Mikki Kendall, but food insecurity, access to quality education, safe neighborhoods, a living wage, and medical care are all feminist issues. All too often, however, the focus is not on basic survival for the many, but on increasing privilege for the few. Author Mikki Kendall takes aim at the legitimacy of the modern feminist movement arguing that it has chronically failed to address the needs of all but a few women.

This book is amazing, hands down. I learned so much from it despite having read many other books on minority issues & feminism. I just want to hug the author then read everything else she's ever written.

Historia
This unforgettable memoir from a prize-winning poet about growing up undocumented in the United States recounts the sorrows and joys of a family torn apart by draconian policies and chronicles one young man’s attempt to build a future in a nation that denies his existence. Children of the Land distills the trauma of displacement, illuminates the human lives behind the headlines, and serves as a stunning meditation on what it means to be a man and a citizen.

I loved this in depth look at in immigrant's story. It's important to showcase that it's not easy to become a citizen, as well as the facets surrounding the process. For those of us who are a few generations in, who feel a bit removed from others' struggles, this gives an understanding we have lacked... until now.

There are only two paths in life: average and awesome. The average path is easy because all you have to do is nothing. The awesome path is more challenging, because things like fear only bother you when you do work that matters. The good news is Start gives listeners practical, actionable insights to be more awesome, more often.

Historia
In Mestizos Come Home! author Robert Con Davis-Undiano documents the great awakening of Mexican American and Latino culture since the 1960s that has challenged this omission in collective memory. He maps a new awareness of the United States as intrinsically connected to the broader context of the Americas. At once native and new to the American Southwest, Mexican Americans have “come home” in a profound sense: they have reasserted their right to claim that land and U.S. culture as their own.

Reads like a textbook
Revisado: 04-19-20
I wanted so badly to like this. I would recommend this as a textbook or if you know absolutely nothing about the subject. I expected it to display new ideas or an interesting outlook; instead it was a ton of repetition, quoting other Latinx writers, & breaking down their work. The monotonous tone made it that much harder to get through.

Historia
Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

100% Recommend
Revisado: 02-28-20
I've been on a journey to minimize the amount of things I have for a while now, but still have a lot of junk. The Marie Kondo method has helped a little but not completely. This book gave me the tips & tools I need to continue on my journey. Most times, I'd start organizing & discarding while listening, because I felt so motivated. I definitely recommend listening to/ reading this book.

As Ferguson, Missouri, erupted in August 2014 and media commentators across the ideological spectrum referred to the angry response of African Americans as 'Black rage', historian Carol Anderson wrote a remarkable op-ed in the Washington Post showing that this was, instead, 'white rage at work. With so much attention on the flames,' she wrote, 'everyone had ignored the kindling.'

Amazing detail
Revisado: 01-22-20
I almost didn't read this book as I have already read several others on this topic, but this one went into so much detail, I was shocked by how much new information I gained. The details about specific injustices & how they have effected an entire race are sometimes hard to listen to but I think other books gloss over those details or assume you already know them, so I very much appreciated the writing.
