This book is well-written, compelling and useful. I have lived with traumatized family members most of my life. This book gave me a better understanding of how trauma has impacted them and it has fundamentally altered and improved our relationships.

Most surprising, though, was the recognition of an early childhood minor trauma due to neglect. It was something that I had never dealt with, only plastered over. Being able to give a name to this pain and fear I carry around in the back of my head has been a huge relief. The amount of personality traits I can tie back to this one event was really eye opening.

Lyrical and profound. This book made me think and see differently. While I don’t agree with all within, the author delivers his perspective beautifully, with both grace and terror. This book is stunning achievement telling of a father’s love and fear for his son in a society built upon the bones, blood and sinew of their ancestors, friends and families.

Phrasing is a bit gimmicky but the content is sound and vital

The choice of title phrase is overused but I found myself reassured by and in fierce agreement with the content. This book at its core is a meditation on how we care too much about stupid stuff while ignoring those things of greatest value and importance. Fear of death paralyzes us into never living as fully as we want. And if we can loosen fear’s hold we can be a whole lot happier.

Extraordinary content; slightly muddled execution

Highest recommendation for anyone who manages others or feels increasingly disengaged from their work. Slap's message is vital, crucial and 100% accurate in my experience. Emotional commitment is the perfect (and only) antidote to the creeping numbness that so many new and seasoned managers fall victim to. Slap's message is so direct that it makes sense he would narrate his own book. His lack of narratorial polish actually adds impact and humor to what he says. The only negative I assign this recording is that the editing is poor, with several segments apparently missing parts of sentences (or more). However, I give this book 5 stars for my belief in the message. It's well worth tolerating the few hiccups along the way.
