What happens when 9 translators get obsessed with the writer they are translating for? Beautifully written but hard to stay focused on content. Made myself finish the book

In the tradition of Mahabharata and Ramayana. Salman Rushdie, Muslim by birth, never fails to surprise me with his deep knowledge of Hindu traditions. Love the theme of Hindu Muslim affinity so urgent for modern India

A long and lovely story that explores themes of race and immigration and women’s right and disability with heart wrenching tenderness. Enjoy the reading in the moment and don’t wait to see how it all ends

Wonderful portrayal of rise of Hindu fundamentalists in modern India. Salman Rushdie traces this from late nineteenth century to today. The family saga is Bollywood in scope: action and emotion: I got fed up in the last 20%

Mr Rushdie is cosmopolitan writer with deep roots to India that he has fostered. Most of the essays were great fun. Some essays had a flavor of rubbing shoulders with the famous but enjoyable all the same.

The book explores the plight of migrants through a tender and lyrical relationship between a young man and a young woman. One of the few books written and narrated by the author and is well presented. Each listener will find something to connect with in this deeply human book.
