From the author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos comes a provocative hypothesis that explores the connection between what modern neuropsychology tells us about the brain and what rituals, myths, and religious stories have long narrated. A cutting-edge work that brings together neuropsychology, cognitive science, and Freudian and Jungian approaches to mythology and narrative, Maps of Meaning presents a rich theory that makes the wisdom and meaning of myth accessible to the critical modern mind.

This book may one day help save humanity from itself
Revisado: 11-19-20
An astounding amalgam of hard-won knowledge. A human triumph in understanding and and making explicit, the Truths of ancient cultural myths, religion, alchemy, biology, sociology, and the nature of the individual. I believe Peterson just acutely sharpened for the better, Nietzsche’s Übermensch, and has laid out a it’s core message: Do not lie and do not do what you hate, and through these noble aims, the world will reveal itself to you. This man deserves every positive accolade available to us for this gargantuan, lifelong effort. If you read and share any book this year, please make it this one.

What does everyone in the modern world need to know? Renowned psychologist Jordan B. Peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research. Humorous, surprising, and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.

Dear Mr. Peterson
Revisado: 02-19-18
Thank you for your bravery in dragging your soul in front of the mirror, wavy as it may be, and forcing it to account for itself in every manner; not turning away at the ugly bits and even tearfully at times scribing every detail as it were and not how you-we-wish it to be. The result is beautiful, laudable, and more worthy of sharing than any I can recall in recent memory.
For leading a generation through its blindness and darkness and confusion, I hope for the very highest and the very best for you.
We should all be screaming ceaselessly Pulitzer’s and Nobel’s names for accolades to be heaped both upon the work you’ve produced in this book, and for the inner work it took to be able to produce it.
Mostly, and personally, thank you for heartening a young man like me with your incisive thoughts and carefully articulated words.

All the stories...
Revisado: 08-01-17
What is it with these military muscle heads all hopped up on adrenaline and blinded by the story they've been told about 'duty to protect' that makes them think they can just drone on about killing people and call it a business book on leadership? Not the same. Huge stretch. The new work force isn't bound by constraints of rank and doesn't take orders blindly for the vaguest sense of patriotism (or in business, the profit of owners). So, now knowing your drivel is irrelevant, can you please spread the word; stop writing humble-bragging faux leadership books! It's frustrating!

Study three easy fundamentals and make them a habit, and you have a recipe for sustained success no matter what hurdles life throws at you. This is a story of a small boy, scared and alone in the world, who ran away from home at 16, overcame numerous hostile environments to pursue his dream to become a Navy SEAL, and eventually became the naval special warfare sniper course manager (head) instructor. The lessons learned along the way were powerful.

Historia
In The Black Swan Taleb outlined a problem, and in Antifragile he offers a definitive solution: how to gain from disorder and chaos while being protected from fragilities and adverse events. For what Taleb calls the "antifragile" is actually beyond the robust, because it benefits from shocks, uncertainty, and stressors, just as human bones get stronger when subjected to stress and tension. The antifragile needs disorder in order to survive and flourish. Taleb stands uncertainty on its head, making it desirable, even necessary, and proposes that things be built in an antifragile manner.

Historia
For 18 years, Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith have been revolutionizing the study of politics by turning conventional wisdom on its head. They start from a single assertion: Leaders do whatever keeps them in power. They don't care about the "national interest" - or even their subjects - unless they have to. This clever and accessible book shows that the difference between tyrants and democrats is just a convenient fiction.

Eye-opener
Revisado: 02-07-17
An amazingly insightful look into the real incentives behind foreign aid and policy that drive autocrats and democrats alike.
My takeaway was that rather than fighting our most selfish and human tendencies, that it is possible to use those very same tendencies to create peaceful intergovernmental alignment that benefits more than government leaders and their closely held constituents. A blueprint to use crony capitalism him to engender I'm warfare and prosperous world.
My favorite book of the past year!
This book should be a primary text for every high school student and university the world over.

Historia
Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race”, a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of Black women and men - bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a Black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son.

Frustratingly unresolved but maybe necessarily.
Revisado: 11-02-16
Superior writing and performance. But I'm white, and frustrated at the resignation that things are the way they are. I'm also inspired and envious at the message that seems to have hope in a grounded and sometimes horrible but sometimes wonderful, and un-takable, and proud reality. It gave me a perspective I could not have come to otherwise.
