Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Nothing revolutionary, but really well done, and therefore thought provoking.

Buy this book posting a lot of recent thinking and science on human beings place in the world. The whole is definitely greater than the parts. I heartily recommend for those who like to think.

Wow. What a great surprise.
Revisado: 12-01-15
I bought this because it was highly rated and on sale. I was excited to find that it lived up to the billing. This was so well done I thought the story was nonfiction, but the writing was too good. It's a terrific example of time real world events, to an incredibly well designed an interesting plot. The only fly might be that the book runs a bit long, but I never got bored. Special call out to the excellent voice acting. Probably the best I've seen in an audible book.

Too short and redundant to the podcast.
Revisado: 11-30-15
Overall the book delivers on what you expect from freakanomics but it's short and redundant to a lot of their other work. In fact quite a bit of the overall length of this piece is the inclusion of a couple podcasts at the end. If you e never listened to a podcast you will likely find it much more interesting than I did.

Historia
Richard Papen had never been to New England before his 19th year. Then he arrived at Hampeden College and quickly became seduced by the sweet, dark rhythms of campus life—in particular by an elite group of five students, Greek scholars, worldly, self-assured, and at first glance, highly unapproachable. Yet as Richard was accepted and drawn into their inner circle, he learned a terrifying secret that bound them to one another...a secret about an incident in the woods in the dead of night where an ancient rite was brough to brutal life...and lead to a gruesome death.

Ok, but long an having a female narrate a 1st person male protagonist was distracting
Revisado: 10-19-15
The story is relatively interesting, but it went a bit long, with not a lot of plot twists or turns. Also, while the author is an good narrator, having woman narrate a 1st person male protagonist story was distracting, often taking me out of the story like a bad fake accent in a movie. I didn't really see a plus side to this, given the availability of good male voice actors. Had it been written in the third person...

Historia
Maps have long exerted a special fascination on viewers - both as beautiful works of art and as practical tools to navigate the world. But to those who collect them, the map trade can be a cutthroat business, inhabited by quirky and sometimes disreputable characters in search of a finite number of extremely rare objects.
Once considered a respectable antiquarian map dealer, E. Forbes Smiley spent years doubling as a map thief - until he was finally arrested slipping maps out of books in the Yale University library.

And well-written book on a strange crime
Revisado: 07-10-15
If you love maps, or find unusual crime stories and personality interesting, this book would be for you. Much of the subject matter is esoteric, but that's not really important. The author does a great job to provide context and interest to what is a pretty dry subject. The narration is excellent and the vocals appropriate to the subject matter.

Good, but a bit over simplified, hard as audio
Revisado: 05-03-15
I think there's a lot of interesting information in this book, and I plan to listen to it a second time to try and absorb more of it. I was hoping for a bit more depth on glucose measurements and similar. I also could've done without the sex chapter (I assumed I was working on this for my own health :-), but it was well done compared to similar attempts on the subject and perhaps on the people find that more interesting.

Historia
For millennia, fresh olive oil has been a necessity - for food, medicine, beauty, and religion. Today's researchers continue to confirm the remarkable, life-giving properties of true extra-virgin, and "extra-virgin Italian" has become the highest standard of quality. But what if this symbol of purity has become deeply corrupt?

Interesting and informative - get the word out!
Revisado: 04-18-15
A little dry for the average reader, I found this book very enjoyable and informative unfortunately, a lot of the story is a bit disturbing in terms of the state of the olive oil industry. A must read for the serious foodie, though. I learned a lot about olive oil, it's quality, it's history, and the industry. Hopefully more will read it resulting in improved olive oil quality everywhere.
Excellent narration as well.
