Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

It's so good!!!
Revisado: 04-23-22
I have listened to this over and over and over. The story and the narration are both just so good. I didn't use the monthly credit to buy it because it's a short novel so costs much less to just buy at it's normal price. If you get as much enjoyment from just one listen as I did it's still worth a credit. Still, it's also worth a full credit when you listen to it over and over again as I continue to do. But, again, If you're the type to equate dollar per hour of listen time as your main way to decide value to a book (I. am. not.), you can purchase it outright for less without spending a full credit because, yes, it is a short novel.
The book is snarky and funny and serious and action packed and mixed with small slice of life parts and differing personalities and, . just. so. good.

Historia
"The Other Crowd", "The Good People", "The Wee Folk", and "Them" are a few of the names given to the fairies by the people of Ireland. Honored for their gifts and feared for their wrath, the fairies remind us to respect the world we live in and the forces we cannot see. In these tales of fairy forts, fairy trees, ancient histories, and modern true-life encounters with the Other Crowd, Eddie Lenihan opens our eyes to this invisible world with the passion and bluntness of a seanchai, a true Irish storyteller.

The Red Queen is old but the kings of the Broken Empire dread her like no other. For all her reign, she has fought the long war, contested in secret, against the powers that stand behind nations, for higher stakes than land or gold. Her greatest weapon is The Silent Sister - unseen by most and unspoken of by all. The Red Queen's grandson, Prince Jalan Kendeth - drinker, gambler, seducer of women - is one who can see The Silent Sister.

A decent start to a series
Revisado: 10-30-21
Story is told from the alternating viewpoints of two main characters who are talented and kind young adults, one male one female. There is a third character who's view point we do not see but who is also intricate to the story and a bit more interesting.
Main threat/enemy is not human.
Plot is driven mainly by action and activity and not through character development, politics, or much else. Although, there is a bit of mystery to the backgrounds of the main characters.
Writing style is blunt and to the point and not flowery or metaphorical.
It does seem as though the story is just getting started and I am hoping the characters and plot become more complex.
The narrators are fun to listen to.

Revisado: 10-20-21
I'm so happy I purchased this! I almost didn't purchase this because other reviews made me question if it was badly plotted and poorly written. It wasn't any of those negative things.
If you're looking for something free of violence but blooming with uncomplicated magic, fun dialogue, prismatic characters, and lavish surroundings, then I highly recommend.
It's a modern day, violence free, romance free, day- dream-worthy urban fairy tale.
If you are looking for something that is not highly stressful or action packed but has lots of heart and will bring you joy; give this a listen.

Torture scene after torture scene after torture
Revisado: 10-03-21
We get it, the bad guy is really bad... we don't need detailed torture scene after scene after scene once that is established. There are some interesting bits here and there and then lots of chapters that are difficult to get through. I won't waste more time trying to finish this, so many better books to occupy my time.

Really weird. Also gruesome. Graphic sex scenes.
Revisado: 08-25-21
Narrator does a great job.
Second half of book is better written than first, too much lengthy inner monologues in first half, too many lengthy instances of it repeating the same story over again by the other character to show each perspective.
Um... big trope of traumatized insecure humble kind people finding each other, not a plus or minus as some people love those story lines as much as other people hate them. But if you need to avoid gore, graphic sex scenes or characters reliving past and current trauma(no really, consider this a spoiler free trigger warning as some listeners looking for a fantasy romance are listening to escape the trauma of their real lives and pasts and this may only cause a lot of stress) this isn't for you, that said, if you like gore and broken souls and steamy detailed sex scenes you might love this listen.
Overall I do not like the approach to trauma and the use of trauma as a writing device in this. The story cherry picks serious symptoms of PTSD to fill out character development to make it fit the romance of the story without understanding the realities of trauma and how these cute fictionalized trauma tropes do real life harm to real people by perpetuating and romantacizing false and harmful ptsd stereotypes. The editors really needed a trauma informed sensitivity reader on this.
However i did like that he steamy scenes were all the steamier and romantic because of how consent was woven in by characters.
Overall, it was the narrator and not the writing that made the book decent.
