Not as good as the first book, little slow at times, bit of a pointless love triangle but the end is very good. really excited for book 3

This story is really good and something I really want to listen to but the audio on this book is one of the worst I've ever heard on Audible. With headphones on, I can hear someone talking in the background the entire time, was someone else recording in the same space? Were people just having a conversation? How did this pass editing at a publisher like HarperCollins? I swear around the 34 minute mark of chapter 2 I can hear a door open.
I really hope this isn't an issue in the other 2 volumes because it greatly detracts from an otherwise phenomenal experience

There's some loop on the Jack Johnson chapter, around the halfway point the chaper begins again. i don't know if there's more to the chapter that is left out or if it's just lazy editing but it's annoying

The Narrator kind of sucks too. putting accents on Hispanic names but can't get Ali or Holyfield right, calls them Alli and Hollyfield.

The first narrator in this book is very unpleasant to listen to. she sounds like she's reading to children at nap time. makes an otherwise good story tedious to get through.

the second narrator (more than one should never be a thing) sounds like he's trying to be a pretend lawman from the olden days. Just read the story bro.

didn't make it to the 3rd.

it's annoying when narrators ruin a good story

This is a very good book, very important story about US History and the abuse of the voting rights of Black Americans.

The Narrator is garbage, sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. Man mispronounced several words like precedent, error and Carnegie. Aren't there editors for these things? Please do better.

Andy Serkis has been incredible reading the Lord of the Rings. The voices are excellent. I honestly hope he reads more books on Middle Earth. All of them would be nice

Andy Serkis set the bar when he read The Hobbit during the Pandemic last year and I hoped they'd have a recorded version. It was incredible, I did not expect him to record The Lord of the Rings as well. He sets the bar higher here, this should go down as the definitive audio version of these books.

This is an important piece of history from a time that reshaped America. Some of it is still relevant, unfortunately.

My biggest problem is multiple narrators, some of them are genuinely bad. You have Grover Gardner on this, you didn't need anyone else. especially these old guys who sound like they're falling asleep or have crap audio equipment.

This is probably one of my favorite books that I've read. It is very difficult to listen to due to the extreme nature of life in Guantanamo for prisoners. However there are times where I found myself in awe at the determination Mansoor showed to hold on to himself and his humanity with help from his brothers his faith.
Americans turned a blind eye to everything that happened at Guantanamo regardless of detainees guilt or innocence. This book shines a bright long overdue light on those events.
I doubt Mansoor would ever see this but I hope he is doing well in his life and I hope for more books from him in the future.
