Historia
Why a poetry album? Easy answer: I love poetry. I love reading it. I love memorizing it. I love hearing great actors recite it. As the poet Mark Strand wrote, “Ink runs from the corners of my mouth / There is no happiness like mine / I have been eating poetry.” In the past, when I was full from eating, I have had the audacity to set poetry to music. But, on this audiobook, you will hear the music of the poems.

The readings are fantastic and so, so many surprises! It was a joy to listen to and I’m sure I’ll be re-listening to this again soon.

Historia
Full of thrilling and unexpected connections among history, psychology, economics, neuroscience, and more, Selfie is an unforgettable book that makes sense of who we have become. Ranging from Ancient Greece, through the Christian Middle Ages, to the self-esteem evangelists of 1980s California, the rise of the "selfie" generation, and the era of hyper-individualism in which we live now, Selfie tells the epic tale of the person we all know so intimately - because it's us.

Good not great
Revisado: 03-15-25
I appreciated Will Storr’s book on Status so that why I got this… but the stories in this were too meandering for my taste and the over all theme too loose.

You keep being told to do more complex, more aggressive, and more expensive marketing. Chasing the latest bright, shiny object is exhausting. Increased efforts keep leading to disappointment. The overwhelm for entrepreneurs, marketers, and business leaders is real. There's a better way.

Solid, B+
Revisado: 03-13-25
I definitely like Allan Dib (read and liked his Lean Marketing Plan), his perspective always seems fresh and insightful. I say B+ rather than A or A - (I know you were wondering) because he gives a solid overview but leaves many of the tactical things outside. Still, highly recommend!

You run a business. And running a business is hard. The burden of responsibility, the weight of stress, and the loneliness of running your business are a far cry from your friends who work salaried jobs. The path of least resistance is to let the stress and isolation of starting, running, and growing a business infiltrate most aspects of your life. Over and over, we've watched our fellow entrepreneurs succumb to the mental toll and chaos of running a business. We've also experienced it firsthand as we've launched and grown our own businesses.

Nothing is more inspiring than a big vision that becomes a triumphant, new reality. Think of how the Empire State Building went from a sketch to the jewel of New York's skyline in twenty-one months, or how Apple’s iPod went from a project with a single employee to a product launch in eleven months.

Revisado: 06-30-24
At first, I have to admit being more than skeptical (and partly triggered) as someone who worked for Salomon Brothers in the late 90s and hearing Miriam’s backstory… but her solid advice and structure/ plan for managing your art career won me over. I was so impressed in fact I started following her podcast, thanks Miriam!
