Historia
This magisterial work, based on Frances FitzGerald's many years of research and travels, takes us inside the history of Vietnam - the traditional, ancestor-worshiping villages, the conflicts between Communists and anti-Communists, Catholics and Buddhists, generals and monks, the disruption created by French colonialism, and America's ill-fated intervention - and reveals the country as seen through Vietnamese eyes. Originally published in 1972, Fire in the Lake was the first history of Vietnam written by an American, and subsequently won the Pulitzer Prize.

Excellent Book
Revisado: 05-04-22
I have been reading several books about the Vietnam War ad this tome is definitely one of the best. Its pages are filled with cultural details about Vietnam which allows its readers develop an understanding of cultural clash between the Vietnamese and the West, the French and the Americans. Fire in the Lake is a must read for scholars studying the Vietnam War.

This is a major political biography of a great American president - who won a war, transformed the government, and doubled the size of the United States...in four years. When Polk was sworn in as the 11th president, what followed was one of the most consequential presidencies in history.

McManus shows that encountering peace does not occur by accident, but rather by artful intention. The Way of the Warrior is a call to decisiveness, self-examination, and the pursuit of spiritual wholeness. Through the ancient biblical practices of humility, focus, ownership, clarity, strength, and vulnerability, he guides listeners to a deeper understanding of their inner workings and provides the guidance they need to establish peace and tranquility in their homes, neighborhoods, communities, and even the world!

Solipsistic Nonsense
Revisado: 08-13-21
This book is not a serious attempt of understanding the spiritual path of warriors. The author uses Christian orthodoxy as a way to motivate people who know nothing about spirituality or warriors. In this book, the way of the warrior is nothing but a cliché not a subject of serious scholarship.

Historia
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

A Man of Character
Revisado: 08-09-21
The Republic was robbed of President Garfield's leadership by senseless act of a man whose mind was warped by religion's effect on the feebleminded. What a terrible loss of Garfield's influence on a country trying to come together after the end of rebellion against the foundational principle of equality for all its citizens before the law.

Historia
We are but a few generations removed from millennia spent living in intimate contact with the natural world and in close commune with ancestral spirits. Who we are and who we think we are is rooted in historical connections with those who came before us and in our relationships with the land and the sentient natural world. When we wander too far from our roots, our ancestors and kin in the natural world call us home, sometimes with gentle whispers and sometimes in loud voices sounding alarms.

Randy's anecdotal experiences made his journey of spiritual awakening. a page-turning pleasure. It was an enjoyable tour of his travels that makes me want to learn more about Native American spiritual beliefs. I agree with his message and look forward to reading about his future discoveries.

Historia
In 1941, the United Kingdom faced its darkest hour: It stood alone against the Germans, who had chased British forces out of France, Norway, and Greece. All it had left were desperate measures - commando raids, intelligence coups, feats of derring-do. Any such "novel enterprise", wrote Admiral John Godfrey, Director of Naval Intelligence, required "an officer with drive and imagination of the highest order". He found one in Commander Ian Fleming.

Pan Am at War chronicles the airline's historic role in advancing aviation and serving America's national interest before and during World War II. From its inception, Pan American Airways operated as the "wings of democracy", spanning six continents and placing the country at the leading edge of international aviation. At the same time, it was clandestinely helping to fight America's wars.

Historia
From Ancient Rome to the British Empire, Phillips demonstrates that every world-dominating power has been brought down by a related set of causes: a lethal combination of global over-reach, militant religion, resource problems, and ballooning debt. It is this same axis of ills that has come to define America's political and economic identity in the past decade.

Excellent Work!
Revisado: 07-08-08
Kevin Phillips' objective exegesis of modern America causes one to reflect upon the current state of our Republic. Corruption has permeated American institutions to such a degree that the Founding Fathers would barely recognize our government as one of their creation. The readers who panned this book, most likely, lack basic understandings of economics, American history, and the law. I heartily recommend this excellent thesis!
